To have detentions is normal but, that I think that is not normal that most companies are not paying it lately, (or that they hand out a $100 for a 24 hours detention).

    Is this normal?

Is someone else experiencing the same?

Is there any way that you can claim your detention? Because even though detention is specified on the contract they don't pay it.

    Help please!

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

You get bupkis. Unless you can nail the signing of a contract so that whatever it says they have to pay up.

It is also a clue to maybe reconsider what ever it is you are hauling. Detention and sitting around is a form of waste and a parasite to everything you are in life.

Hold them to the contract that they signed. Do you submit a print out of your log for that day as further proof of how long you were held up? Or stop hauling for people who don’t pay for your time. Or keep putting up with it.

I pull a pneumatic so I’m not dealing with warehouses and such but here’s what we do:

On the BOL we write our arrival and departure times, getting someone to sign off on those times when possible.
We email a copy of our log to the office and they submit that along with our BOL.
And sometimes we also have a scale ticket with in/out times to send along.

I took note. Thank you. Sometimes it´s hard to get them signed the detention. We have experienced that a lot. But we will start sending the log and the scale ticket.

When I pulled pneumatics, I used to get signatures upon arrival, stating the time for permission to unload, and get a second signature upon completion for acceptance of the load, Things like plant full, other trucks ahead I just noted on the BOL.
I the Chemical tanker world I am required to get the same set of signatures before I even hook u to the plant, verifies the type of chemical, unload/load location and plumbing, as well as PPE locations like fresh water and showers, If it takes a customer an hour w dont even loosen a cap till its signed. I wish the freight people I have driven for did this.
I all fairness at Legend I never waited for loads, it was all drop and hook, with the exception of a couple of deliveries and I was paid for them. Thats was dedicated TJ Max / Goodman AC loads.
