Federal judge orders UPS to pay $247 million for illegally shipping cigarettes

I know they sell off brand cigarettes but its sort of a "gray zone" regarding the legality of possessing them off reserve land. And then there are the $10 a carton smokes. I think the fine is $200 per cigarette for those. I don't smoke but saw warnings posted about the subject

Maybe it's a biodiesel blend only without the taxes added on. Who knows?

 

NY, home of fines, fees & taxes. NAI's are exempt from state taxation, IF they only sell to natives....The State used (80's) to sit up on the hill, just above the Onondaga rez truck stop with binoculars watching who bought fuel. They'd stop you when you left, but many of the guys would just climb in the rack and wait 'em out. Funny thing is, it likely cost the state more to pay the enforcement guys to sit up there to watch then they made in fines. Likely though, just like the OW fines today, the fines for that are much higher now.....

 

In the 80s yea I bought fuel there, then the company cut our fuel cards off at those locations

 

I'm sorry, but exactly how does extorting exorbitant amount of cash protect anyone?

Funny thing is all fuel in NY is untaxed. There are 5 states that do not have tax on fuel at the pump..... NY, NM, IN, OK, and OR. We still have to pAy the road tax for ifta but there is no tax money in the fuel.

 

So they fine UPS then turn around and send a tax bill to all the addresses that ordered cigarettes.. Ny. = unarmed robbery.
