think his parody is a long way of saying that it would be VERY hard to get by and raise a family with those rates...

true - it may have rubbed some the wrong way - but look closely at what companies advertise - and what you wind up with.

There is an ARMY of guys out there that live like that -

and those guys with few responsibilities tend to not only ruin our Image - but also our rates.

You have to consider the variables like insurance , registration , taxes , etc. When things are slow those expenses add to your cost per mile considerably . There is a surplus of cargo vans in the industry and a 2 or 3 day wait between loads is not unusual lately .

Hell I can get 90 cents a mile delivering school buses. I know I have to buy my own fuel and pay my way home. But I wouldn't have any truck payment and repairs.

I would imagine school bus deliveries would be getting pretty thin...

especially since most school systems are about broke etc etc.

I lived in Richmond Indiana for many years - and that was the home for "wayne Works" which became "carpenter bus company" (now out of biz)

I remeber an old neighbor that would drive new bus' all over the place for delivery...

    what companies are left??

    Bluebird? LaFRance?

    hmmmm...

are they "owned" by international (navistar) - or is that just the name

    "International"

I have seen navistars logo on the front of buses - but figured a 3rd party provided the bodies.

    anyway

    back to topic.

Anyone have a breakdown on what the operational cost of a cargo van is?

not super detailed - but a general list of per mile / per year cost

I am trying to determine if it is even something to consider in the future - or if it is a scam.
