Thanks for reading. First im almost 2 years removed from driving school and currently work for a large Fedex Ground contractor. So im use to this type of terminals and work. Im currently out 4.5 days a week, home the rest which i know in the OTR world that is good. I find myself wanting to spend more time with my wife and daughter, so i figured why not Fedex Freight, similar work, home nightly, better pay. I have heard though you can run the risk of working your first year or two on the docks, something i cannot afford. Any insight on this guys? Thanks again for any help and your time.

You could always look into finding a contractor with open local routes, home daily.
You're already approved with ground so switching contractors is simply paperwork.

As for FedEx freight I can't really help too much but city drivers get paid the same rate whether you're on the dock or driving so I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to afford it.
Haven't seen them hiring directly for linehaul, not around me anyway.

Yes my brother is the shop manager.you in all likelihood will start on the dock or at least dock and p and d combo.Fed ex freight is unlike other LTL companies they hardly ever hire for linehaul off the street.it usually will take 2 to 5 years depending on terminal to get in to linehaul.

Could you please provide info on you found a contractor to work for? I'm looking for local driving. Used to work for FedEx ground in last year, but couldn't find a website that listed "local drivers wanted" etc. Thanks!

    Can't really help there.

Call the terminals around you, follow the options to get to linehaul, ask them to post your contact info, that you're a driver seeking home daily work, and that you have previous FXG experience on their bulletin board.

If anyone has an open route they should pick you up in a hurry.

    thekrell Thanks this.
