If you can't drive a fork lift then don't apply. Their is no job security at FedEx Freight. If they could find a way to get rid of all the drivers to save money they would do so. Buying new equipment but the smaller centers end up with stuff that isn't safe to drive. Who wants to drive an old KW without any A/C in it? According to what I am hearing it isn't a requirement for you to do your job because their is no A/C. These are my opinions and my opinions alone! Just in case you think it's great to have a job at FedEx, well it isn't. To beat up from all those years on the dock to look for another job.

At any local job, you're going to do the loading and unloading yourself, especially with a dry van. So yes, forklift and pallet jack experience is helpful.

I always liked handling freight. It's good exercise. The biggest killer of truck drivers is lack of exercise.
-
I don't think the local trucks are required to have Climate Control are they? I know they didn't used to. I used to load trucks all the time. Some local Roadway drivers didn't have A/C. This was back in the 80's though.

There is plenty of security for outside carriers of purchase dispatch. Just ask Swift, DeBoer, Hill Brothers, Landstar, USE, Amerifreight, Transport America and all of the others. They're making bank. Didn't anyone tell you that before you hired on? I had a dedicated linehaul out of Edwardsville at Hill Bros. I made huge dough, but extra board guys got sent home most every night. Top guys earn over 90k, it's no joke. But you and many others will never last that long. Move on...

I see at least 5 Hill bros a night sitting at a side road near FedEx Freight sleeping waiting to pick up or deliver there when I
Leave my companies terminal. We're you making 90k at FedEx or Hill Bros? FedEx in my eyes will eventually go off their FedEx Ground model in the future saves them a boat load of money. Don't have to buy anything but trailers for contractors to run. -
I hear that company drivers at FedEx freight make 55 cpm. The megas probably move the load at less then $1 pm.
you do the math......... -
I have to say around .58-.60 cpm topped out plus hourly for misc around 20hr+. You can rack up 5-10 hrs extra a week too at most LTL's. Yeah Mega carriers paying their o/o .89 cpm to 1.00. Pretty crazy.

I'm a contractor for FedEx Ground. We have pulled some freight for "Freight". Only Team runs, and nothing steady. Haven't heard any talk about getting rid of company trucks.
