The contractors to me are how fed ex ground keeps from ever paying ot or any real benefits, a few of the contractors do offer some benfits or just health insurance. But it seems like a good opportunity for a student driver, just keep track of your check stubs and if they are being emailed to you make sure you can download them or print them out, if things do ever fizzle out for whatever reason you want to be able to use the time as verifiable experience where ever you might go afterwards.

Yeah, at FXG we're employees of the contractor we hire on with. Like anything else some are good and some bad.
I have health, dental, vision and retirement. Sick and vacation days. I have a steady schedule that gets me back in town 3 nights a week. I team with my hubby, but we each make over 80k a year. I also happen to have a good boss and am glad when he is a buffer between FXG and us. I know I can count on him to look after our best interests.
As far as bad weather driving... If it is loaded, you roll. HOWEVER they will sometimes cancel or reroute loads to go around the storm. At all times you are the captain of your ship. If you need to pull off, do it. Keep in mind, they'll staple a weather report to your incoming slip. If there's no bad weather and you pull off claiming there is... you see where this is going. And doubles are a lot like trying to drive a fish in wind and rain and snow and ice. Lots of drivers fail to slow down enough to keep 'em on the road in bad weather. I wouldn't work anywhere I didn't have control of my own safety in bad weather.
Our Fleet Manager at FXG told me to my face: "They are only packages." And encouraged me to shut down if I need to.
But not all contractors are equal, and we're certainly not a new team. We're working on our 3 million mile mark as a team with no accidents, tickets or incidents. My current employer pays for that experience and safety record.
I know the OP made his decision a few months ago. I was hoping this would help set the record straight for anyone else.LoneCowboy and Pullin2 Thank this.
