For the dough he's making, worth it. A driver i befriended at previous employer wasn't making that kind of money at UPS after 7 years, granted he was only out 5 or 6 days a week depending on runs but he was maxing that 70hr clock regardless. He certainly wasn't getting a week off like us JB;)

He tried talking me into applying to UPS with well meaning intentions.
Always the skeptic i said "Why are you here then?" He admitted after some open ended questioning that his back hurt from hustling those doubles and i believed him. That man had some work ethic as i'm sure anyone hustling doubles for a living must.

All done with the onboarding. Practiced yesterday with putting sets together and breaking them down. I feel very confident in my ability to do it without any issues. Will be dispatched Monday morning after 4am. Meanwhile, in the hotel until Monday.

So, let’s look at this past week and compare a few things. I picked up the rental car last Saturday in Richmond. Drove to White Pine Tn where I reserved a room. Left Sunday and got to the Comfort Suites in Jackson Tn. When I checked in, I found out the room was reserved for 4 nights. Tuesday I extended my rental car until this coming Monday morning when it was brought to my attention that everything won’t be in place until this morning. So, for my understanding, there’s no sorting done on Sunday, it means I’m here until Monday.

Here are the expenses incurred for my onboarding……

    Car rental $295.00
    Motel 8 nights $1200.00

    My expenses…..

    1 motel night $95.00
    Food $135

Pay period ended midnight last night.
    $333.35x4= $1333.40
    Food allowance $150.00

I ate the one night motel and the gas for the car. So, though everything that’s been discussed and promised, has come to fruition, plus the fact that I’ve met, rode with, given pointers to making this transition much easier, and have spoken countless hours with a bunch of folks that came over from the other company last May, I’m pretty stoked to be here and ready to go to work.

My only concern going into this type of trucking was the hooking up and breaking of the sets, that has turned out as a non issue. As much as I want to compare this to the last company, I won’t go there, I’ll take the high road and just say I’m tickled pink I finally took the blinders off and let my record speak for itself and accepted this job. Starting Monday. It will be all new as I start this by myself and get into a routine. I want to end this post by saying this one more time. Thank you all for your positive and reassuring words. And for those of you that have passed on some pointers from your own experiences, thank you as well!

@JohnBoy one more thing then I promise I’ll shut up, sit back and enjoy your thread. But this weather moving in jogged my memory. It can get squirrelly muscling around a converter dolly. It can be downright dangerous in snow and ice. I got these as a gift when I was doing that kind of work, and they are invaluable in a snowy ice packed lot. Obviously there are many variations, mine was similar to the picture shown. I’d strap em on, do my work, and throw em in the sidebox. If you’re out killing time and clunking around the hotel shopping, I thought I might put a bug in your ear, if you think it would be beneficial to you.

I have a pair of those in my truck, but I haven’t needed them yet.

They certainly come in handy when you need them… Ironically, the only place I had to use. Mine is done north of Houston of all places

Great point you bring up. I’ll need to check into these. I have a hard time walking in South Florida, fumbling around hooking a set should be a comedy show on a slippery surface.

We expect video. It would be used strictly for training purposes.

IMG_5568.png @motocross25 this is what I’ve found. They’re made by Yaktrax. There’s a boatload of different types, but I read some of the reviews and these stand out. And upon further review, it looks like yours are the same ones I chose.
