We are going to see more and more fires consuming vehicles simply because of all the electronics that we find on the vehicles. Poor maintenance, trucks or cars today are not being serviced as they once were and the mechanics or I should say technicians(lol) have no idea what they are looking at. Never have I seen so many trucks sitting on the shoulders because some malfunction in the electrical systems.

@JohnBoy If you want, the next time I get on my computer I could take a pic of the Troutdale, OR (Portland 972) depot on google maps and label the areas for ya.

So I’m following this thread and of course learning a lot about a different area of Trucking.
First: Thanks everyone
Second: explain to this steering wheel holder, generically and in layman’s terms, just how does one “set up” or “build” the Doubles/Triples.
It’s been referenced a couple times but probably using lingo that I'm unfamiliar with.
I just envision, and incorrectly so, backing up a pup with the cart (?) attached and snaking all over the Dam Place… LOL
(I know “cart” isn’t the right lingo but the correct name escapes me)
Need not be detail as I’ll never do it myself but I am curious.
And do any of you ever try to back up a D/T or is that a major No No? My dad used to tell a story about having to back up a Double into a shop door but I never knew if he was full of it or not. LOL
Again thanks to all for the insights into this aspect of Trucking.austinmike, 4mer trucker, JohnBoy and 1 other person Thank this. -
There are folks who try to hook it the way you describe, with varying degrees of success. It depends on the driver, experience, and how jacked up the dolly is--some back straight as an arrow, but most are so tweaked they've got as much chance of going straight as RuPaul.
Same for backing up a set; one of the guys at Flagstaff yard bet he could back a set into the dock...and he did it! It was totally Z-shaped, but dang if that back trailer wasn't square in the dock.austinmike, Lonesome, Speed_Drums and 4 others Thank this. -
anyway their dollies had two tongues with Ringfeder style hitches. That effectively made their A train into a B train
