Got to Murfreesboro Sunday afternoon. After getting everything on the truck checked out, I had to run to the store and do some grocery shopping. Was all relaxed and watching TV. About 8pm got a call from the number 2 in charge. It was agreed that Monday (yesterday) I would get the truck serviced and 2 new steers put on. Spent all morning yesterday taking care of that. Was told I’d be dispatched Tuesday morning. Lo and behold, 0600 came calling with my load assignment. Hooked a single pup and left for the North Kentucky hub. Which is just south of Cincinnati. Got here about 1:30 this afternoon. Now done until tomorrow am. They asked me inside Linehaul if I wanted to go back to Murfreesboro or somewhere else. I said west would be fine, so that’s what they put down in the system. They said to be ready at 0600 in the morning. I think I can get use to this job. Usually, over 5 hours and you have to take your 10. A lot of the hubs I’ve been at don’t have a sort for a solo OTR driver until somewhere between 4 & 8 in the morning. The funny thing about each hub that I’ve noticed is that they all run the system the same way, but each one has some things that they do differently than other hubs. So even though I know how the corporate structure works, I still have a learning curve when I get to a different hub, like this one I’m at tonight. But, you do it once and take notes, then it’s a nonissue the next time you visit. And, getting my full daily salary for 2 days and driving 296 miles sure is nice.

That’s how I’ve been doing it as long as I’ve had my job. You can’t go wrong that way.

Very good. You taught yourself a more efficient way to do it.

Keep up the good work. I think you’ll do fine there.

Thanks buddy. Though this won’t prolong my employment, this will allow me to relax the last part before retirement and get back to enjoying my job.

Thanks Mack. This isn’t rocket science, but if you don’t pay attention, you’ll work harder than you have to, or worse, get hurt.

Give him a little time to answer. He might be off site or asleep. I'll tag him so he's sure to see your post when he comes back.
