They're making money on you doing that. Have to get the capacity to where it's needed so they can service the customer freight. Other drivers have routes and are more efficient in that role. You're kind of an extra and this is one of those things that has to be done to keep all the cogs moving.

I’ve been wanting to leave South Florida since the day after I got here 44 years ago. Now the kids are grown, grandkids are here so my wife told me if I want to move to keep in touch because she’s going nowhere.

The only reason I still am stuck in the old ways of counting miles is because I get a weekly bonus over 2000 miles. The best part is it’s easy to keep track. And you are absolutely correct, old habits are hard to break.

You are right. I like my job of being “on call” “wild” or whatever else it can be called. This week has been my best. Not the money part, even though I will make bonus tomorrow, but the fact that I’ve done so much wild runs.

I agree with you. I was on the extra board at Estes years back and can’t tell you how many times someone thought I was crazy to not put in for a bid run. No way Jóse. If I had to drive back and forth every night the same way I’d lose my mind by Wednesday night. There was a guy that did St. Louis to KC for like 20 years. Every. Night. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I’ve done bid runs for private fleets I’ve worked for. After about 6 months it drives you nuts.

I’ve been on the same run for 9 years now and wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s nice to know what you’ll be doing every day, and even nicer to know it won’t be anywhere near Washington DC.

Give me a dedicated run also. No surprises, I know exactly where I am going, I know all the spots for breaks, and I know where I am parking every night

One nice thing about running wild as a solo Linehaul driver is I sleep in a hub every night. No truckstop follies, no shoulders on a rest area ramp, no worrying about fuel and that keystone comedy. All while I run around running from hub to hub. This week for instance, I’ve slept in my assigned hub every night.

I’m definitely liking my new gig with Cross Country. Same route 3 days a week, the other 2 routes one goes north of Jamestown then the next day south of Jamestown, ND.

I load at the same customers every day, which is great since I know when freight when will be ready to go.

I’m happy for you @JohnBoy…. You’ve got and earned that sweet gig.
