Been a rather busy past few days. Thursday I got my 0400 wake up call from my contractor. Build and hook a set going to Lenexa KS. Was all done and pulling out of the gate at 0430. Beat the traffic into, through and out of Nashville. 611 miles later I was at the Lenexa hub. Went and checked in. Was asked when my hours would be back and I told them at 0530. Then was asked if I would take a set to Denver. My response was an emphatic yes. At 0400 I was up and checked my trip buddy, yes the load assignment to Denver was there. Grabbed a quick shower, fueled, then went and found my trailers to build. Pulled out at 0600. Got to Denver at 1600, broke the set down, then went and checked in. Was told to check my trip buddy at 0300. Woke up and my trip was there. It was still being loaded so I ran in and grabbed a shower. Just as I got to the truck, Linehaul called and said the trailers were ready. I’m not familiar with the layout there, so I flagged down a yard jockey for some directions. He pulled them up and told me they both were still at the doors, loaded and ready, but to go to the build area with my dolly and he would bring them to me. That was a pretty cool thing. Got the set built and was pulling out of the gate at 0430 headed back to Lenexa. Got to Lenexa at 1500 Saturday. Sunday morning at 0400 I was pulling out of the gate in Lenexa headed back to Nashville. Got there at 1600, broke the set down, then hooked a ‘53 to Murfreesboro. Yesterday I got the call at 0830 to build a set and meet at a swap point in Okawville Illinois. Got there at 1400, swapped and went back to Murfreesboro. Got here at 2100 last night and am waiting on dispatch.

Here’s what I truly love about this job, no customer interaction with the assorted “park over there, we’ll call you when we have a door” “you don’t have an appointment” “you were due last Thursday”. This job is, build your set, breakdown your set, park on property, fuel on property, shower on property. The only time I leave a hub is if I want to go find a restaurant for a meal. I even do my grocery shopping right up the road from the Murfreesboro hub, which is in a nice quiet peaceful neighborhood.

Don't you love it when their stupidity and disorganization is emphatically Not Your Problem? :D If only we could get the entire industry on this page.

Next time you’re in Lenexa and are hungry the next exit north is Shawnee Mission Pkwy. Take the eastern exit. The first light is Hilltop, make a right (south) and then an Immediate left (west) on Midland and Nick & Jake’s is on the left. I recommend the meatloaf. Across the highway is a Price Chopper if you need to restock groceries.

Got finished with my week last night about 1900. In the midst of a reset. Had my 2 best weeks this week and last week. Last weeks work consisted of 3150 miles and 58 hours.
This week was 3295 miles and 63 hours. There I go counting miles again. Hard habits are tough to break. But, at $1.00 per mile, why not. Made my plans this morning for hometime. Will be flying out of Nashville a week from Sunday. Will be home for 8 days. Tomorrow starts the new pay week. I really don’t want a third week in a row of over 3000 miles. 2000 would be just fine. Suppose to be doing a Lenexa run.

Sitting at Waffle House right by the Murfreesboro hub. Leaving at 0900 to do a swap in Mt Vernon Illinois. Yesterday was a 0230 start. Had to build a set then bring it to Clarksville, break it down for the morning sort then build an empty set and brought that back. Got back, grabbed a shower, made breakfast and was back in bed by 0700. Rested the rest of the day. It’s only the second time since I started doing this job on January 2nd that I’ve had an early morning start.

Even at a nice clean hub, there’s always that one lowlife that shows up. In case anyone is wondering, I picked it up and threw it in the garbage, then went inside and showed Linehaul the picture. They started looking at all the cameras to find the culprit. Low rent piece of trash. IMG_6288.jpeg
