I’m the best team player in the industry. I do my job every day safely and on time, and they pay me every Friday. Doesn’t get any better than that.

My first holiday season rush is ending. Yesterday was the last day to ship a package that is guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas. Last week for me was busy busy. Double Memphis runs every night. I worked 65 hours, made my mileage bonus and was glad to get to bed every morning. This week, 3 nights in a row I had my second run cancelled by Linehaul, have worked 33 hours this week and enjoyed my on call duty tremendously. I’m being told by my OPS manager that I’ll more than likely have my second run cancelled the rest of this week and this weekend. I am what is called “on call” for extra freight which is paid by FEDEX whether I run or not. It ends next week which doesn’t bother me one bit, I’ll be home Monday afternoon.

Haven’t earned my keep this week. Since Sunday I’ve only had one local drop and hook in Jackson every day and one Memphis turn. I leave Humboldt at 3pm, run down to Jackson and do a drop and hook, then get back to Humboldt at 4:15. I then hang around until 9pm then head to Memphis. I’m back at 1am. Tonight is a planned double Memphis turn that will have the 2nd called off. Tomorrow night will be a scheduled double turn that will be as scheduled.
I’ll be back in Humboldt at 6am Monday, run in to grab a shower, then bobtail to the Olive Branch hub to drop off my truck. I’ll grab an uber and get to the airport by 11. Flight leaves at 12:45 pm. Should be home at 4:30pm.
I was talking to the wife about how this job has panned out. It’s quite actually a good deal. If you don’t mind flying round trip every month. It doesn’t bother me. Flying as much as we have internationally, flying domestically is not that awful. I have TSA Prepass which allows me to bypass the long lines. I did a background check and fingerprint and all I do is show my passport and go. I have this down to a science. I check one bag and have a backpack that I carry on. I will say this though, as much as this is the right job at the end of my career, I am counting down the days till I’m done. I just told Mrs JohnBoy that for the last 3 days, all I’m doing is thinking about getting home Monday for 2 weeks off. One note, we will be flying up to Alabama next Thursday so I can see the house my wife fell in love with. Be safe all, Merry Christmas and for those not home, thank you for your dedication.surf_avenue, DonRobbie, hope not dumb twucker and 13 others Thank this. -
Hit up Felix’s fish camp on the bay in Mobile when you’re there, I’d like to say you won’t be disappointed. I went there with family a few years back and it was one of the most simple, yet best dining experiences I’ve had.
