Thoughts and prayers for your coworker. Our choice of hospitals and Dr’s didn’t come lightly. There are 4 top rated hospitals in the US that we could have gone to. The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, USC San Diego, Vanderbilt in Nashville and University of Miami Medical Center. All were the best in treating Acoustic Neuroma. The deciding factor for us was that all these top hospitals used the blueprint written by The Mayo Clinic. Add to that my 2 neurosurgeons came highly recommended in their field, and it was a no brainer. Every part of my brain tumor from initial diagnosis, to where I’m at right now, is because of Mayo and my team of health care providers. If I decide to finally retire, it’s not because of what I went through, but what I have ahead of me and things I still have to accomplish. My job I have right now is the best job I’ve had in 45 years of driving. But I’m working only because I don’t want to retire. Financially I could have retired 6 years ago. But going through these last 8 months has allowed me to rethink my life at this time. Right now my release date from my Dr’s is October 18th. I’ll have my decision made long before then.

Thank you @navypoppop. My recovery is going as planned. But truth be told, these last 8 months has had me looking at my life I’ve had on this rock, and my future, however long that might be. I’ll be 70 in February. I’ve seen family and friends leave this earth much earlier than they should have. I think back to when my pops passed 25 years ago at 69 years old. These things have played a big part in my life since January when this all started. I use to say I was lucky being where I am in my life. It’s not luck, it’s planning. My wife and I worked very hard in both our careers to be able to say, we’re done. Let’s enjoy the fruits of our hard work. Our kids are grown, married and have kids of their own. My wife and I have family and friends in our life that we truly love. I’ve been off the truck since July 14th. I thought I would miss it, I do, but I’ve really got acclimated nicely to being home.

Out of respect to my contractor, and the best job I’ve had in trucking, if I do decide to hang up the keys, I will talk with him and give him a little of my expertise until he gets a replacement. If that happens, then I’ll work until the end of the year. As always, these thoughts are open to change, the biggest difference is that I've been discussing this with my wife since that day 8 months ago when I got the phone call that I had a brain tumor. That cold unassuming phone call back in January changed my life. They hung up, and I was sitting on the next off ramp in shock. I’ll never want to experience that ever again. One final thing, though I have good days and bad days as my recovery goes on, I still have a boatload of living to do.
