I HATE having to come to their yards. Hate, hate, hate it.
First you gotta find your door, navigating the obstacle course as you go, dodging yard dogs, pups, daycabs, forklifts and other poor suckers trying to back in. Only to figure out someone is in it already and go back up for a new door.
Then, you get to try and get set up while daycabs, doubles and yard dogs, and forklifts zip around you like gnats.
Making sure that you can't devote your full attention to what you are doing, because you have to watch out for all of them. It's always the tightest possible space, with the least amount of "nose room" possible. To save a few bucks, they make it even more difficult than it needs to be...some of these places seem to go out of their way to make it so. Things would move a lot faster if they didn't, not all truckers are able to one shot every dock. I will eventually get it in there, it just might take me a little longer.
Sometimes I wonder if S&Rs put random obstacles that serve no clear purpose in the way just for entertainment purposes.
Somehow I veered off topic from those three to all S&Rs. Oh well, you get the point I'm trying to make.
FedEx, UPS, Conway...

well you purchase drivers clog up the yard taking 15+ mins(no exaggeration) trying to back into a door. LTL is a fast paced environment, so we dont have time to be jerking off waiting on you gys. not trying to sound harsh but its the truth.
Best solution to your problem, if your door is already taken, try to get the attention of a hostler..they will get directions from dispatch on how to proceed quickly..Go Hawks and Ghost Ryder Thank this. -
What FedEx terminal are you at where you are dodging forklifts in the yard?
Also, I have yet to see a FedEx terminal I've been at that didn't have lots of room to dock (even a 53' trailer).mje Thanks this. -
well i work for fedex frt. and there should be no forklifts out on the yard!!! but in our big yards just be quick and get her done!!!!!!!

Space is definitely at a premium in a lot of LTL lots and you get used to it fast when you deal with it every day. I just wish the OTR truckload carriers that come to make deliveries would look at how traffic is flowing and follow suit. When they park, or back, or drive against the traffic flow they just take up so ###### much space and it really makes it hard to get around the already cramped property.

What is a purchase driver?

Also, the forklift dodging was done on a UPS yard, not FedEx, never said it was a FedEx yard. As for not having time to "jerk off" while waiting for us to back in and being irritated with us.... Has it ever occurred to you that we don't want to be there any more than you want us there? I dread load to certain LTL yards.
Some of them do have ample room, the ones not located in or near cities.
We actually went to more than one UPS in NY that specifically requested we drop our trailers right where we checked in. The lady explained that the yard was to crowded and tight for people to be able to back in easily. That the yard dogs had to do it. Although, it was around Christmas, maybe it isnt always like that. -
Even us LTL and feeder drivers don't want to be there, but that's no excuse to spend all day backing into a slot. Century Class is right. Most of us don't have time to wait on you to do 5+ pull-ups, so that's why we will drive around you when there's room. It's nothing against you, we just don't have time to be courteous.

A non-company hauling that company's freight. For example: A U.S. Express truck hauling freight out of a FedEx Freight terminal. Usually this is done with freight going to freight lanes that don't have a lot of traffic going to a particular area. I know that we used to send a lot of freight via purchased vans from our Summit (Chicago) terminal to Oklahoma City/mje Thanks this.
