Have a uniden980ssb installed in a KW t800 reception is great,But when keying the mic I'm getting squealing/feedback. Have a Astatic 636 mic. and a friestick mounted on the pass. side mirror bracket.
This setup worked great when installed in a Mack.
    Where should I start?

Do you have the talkback on ,if yes what level, are you close to an external speaker? Do you have the mic gain on level 4 ? Maybe try the Uniden 6 pic stock mic or a different nc mic , I prefer the ranger sra 198

Using the external speaker that's factory installed in the truck and its by the drivers door.
I have the original mic it came with i'll try that.
The one thing I don't like about this radio is it's to easy to accidentally hit a button while reaching to adjust the volume or squelch, Its mounted in the upper console. I'd rather it was on the dash, just dont want to make holes in the dash

First I would disconnect external speaker and see if feedback goes away, if you are going to try uniden mic take cover off and remove adhesive tape on inside of screen or modulation will be very low. You didnt say if you had talkback on or not. As far as hitting other buttons , the volume and squelch knob are up in left corner I have never had a problem adjusting them.

When I use my 980 whether i use uniden nc stock mic or another nc mic like sra198 or roadking I have mic gain all the way up on level 4, if I use a power mic( which is rare) I set mic gain on 2. If I do turn on talkback I cant turn it up more than level 2 without feedback, and I do use an external speaker ( Bearcat) but I have it placed up above on passenger side.

Thanks for the help, I'll have to bring the owners manual with me tue. and screw around with a bit.
Something I just remembered and this happened once while rolling up pass. side power window got some noise thru the external speaker, just that one time.

Well if the only thing different in this truck that the mack didnt have is the factory speaker ,then my guess would be it is probably the culprit.

There is a way to fix the feed back. No, I can't tell you how, but I would think a decent tech could fix that. Might even find out how on-line. A bad tune up will cause it to squeal like a pig too.

He didnt say whether or not the radio was tuned( good or bad) and it worked fine in his previous truck , so it has to be something going on in his new KW
