Today I delivered in a quaint Kansas small town. Tomorrow I load aerospace equipment going to a launch pad on a Florida beach. You can't get that in a dedicated route.
Feeling lost in the trucking career. Should I go O/O?

To the original poster:
Have you considered a different segment of trucking that's not dependent on freight at all??
I will say that there is a certain amount of freedom in choosing your freight/destinations as an O/O. If that's your cup of tea, roll with. But I've come to find that there are other types of trucking jobs out here that don't depend one iota on any kind of freight whatsoever. Now, they will restrict your freedom to choose where you want to to, so to speak, but you also won't have to worry about shippers, consignees, or the headaches that may come with dealing with either or both.
I'll give you an example: I currently work in mobile medical imaging. Have been doing so the past three years. I get paid hourly (also a rarity in trucking unless you work for a local delivery-type company), and whatever I do really doesn't fit neatly into any type of local/regional/ OTR box. It can be any or a mixture of all of that. But that's just my position within my company (which, by the way, I think we have one more opening for "road runners"). But there's also mobile TV production companies out there, too. NEP out of Pittsburgh PA and Game Creek Video out of New Hampshire are two that immediately come to mind:
Then there's also the piggyback decking delivery companies out there...stuff like this (that you've probably seen out and about before):
I know Auto Truck Transport is one company that does this...I know there are others out there, as well.
Oh and as far as mobile medical imaging goes:
So yeah, this kind of stuff isn't really advertised or even talked about that much, but it does exist out here. If you want a new challenge, it might be worth it to look into something like this!Truckermania, Speed_Drums, Oldman83 and 6 others Thank this. -
