Many places (like Seattle area and LA area) parking is limited because there are no truck stops and new truck stops are not allowed to be built. And the communities refuse to allocate areas for trucks to park to await appointment times or take required breaks so you're forced to enter into money (time) losing situations to deal with traffic avoidance, appointment times, and HOS limitations.
Fee's for Truck parking...who pays/who doesn't?

Our company reimburses on a case to case basis.
Thank you to everyone that has replied to this thread.
I was mainly looking for feedback, if there was a standard policy that other companies abide by, or If we've been on the same page. -
Given the HOS rules as they are, eLogs, and the fact ramp parking is illegal in most places and severely frowned upon otherwise, how could a carrier not reimburse? I guess they could impose weekly limits to keep a few poor drivers from abusing the policy.
The larger carriers wanted current HOS rules and eLogs, they need to be responsible for it's effects and fallout.special-k, tucker, mslashbar and 1 other person Thank this. -
I find parking fine every night. I drop the trailer around back, putter to the front. Fuel. Park up front and hop in my pickup and go home.
I highly recommend it to people that have trouble with parking. -
I run coast to coast weekly. I ve never payed for parking. If truck stops are full then i will go park at car aution companies like mamheim, adesa etc. I also park at auto parks and large dealerships. In texas i just l Park on an exit ramp. California is the worst especially around LA. I have not parked at the mega truck stops in over 6 months.
TokyoJones, TransportNService and DieselDrivinDaddy Thank this. -
If you gave me an option to tell our drivers to drop the trailer to get them a free-of-charge parking space, or to pay a few bucks for paid parking and stay hooked to the trailer. i'd prefer to pay.
There's so many unknowns attached to dropping trailers. Theft or Damage are major concerns
I appreciate the suggestion though. I just would prefer our fleet not to drop trailers if they don't have to. -
And yes, I agree, unless it's empty and an emergency I'd not drop a trailer at a truck stop.... -
We have a large enough company yard for our local drivers. My question is pertaining to our cross border fleet. it seems that paid parking is the "norm" in most large cities now. However- spots are hard to come by now that ELD has been mandated. Seems like a nationwide issue now.

I'm reimbursed up to $60 a week for reserved parking, and up to 2 hotels a week at $60 per hotel stay
Aamcotrans Thanks this. -
It's partly the mandate and that alone in my mind tells us it was needed, but that's a different argument.
What I've seen when pulling in to get a snack or whatever is paid parking spots have jumped from 2-3 to 20. That's not helping in finding a free spot at all...
