I have read the Canadian rules on Felons entering Canada and I have a question. My felony was Child Support. The case is no longer a felony in the US but it is on my record. Is Child Support a felony in Canada? The company I work for is opening a cross dock operation in Moosejaw and I am to start that run in February. I will need to get clearance if Child Support will keep me out and that process could take to long.

It doesn't matter if it's a felony or not, Canada doesn't allow United States Citizens to enter with any kind of criminal record, even DUI. For $1,000 US they will consider granting a perminate visa, but it takes several months to a year and they can still say no and keep your money. I say screw them! I won't go to Canada, just because those frog ######## in Quebec screw with people who qualify to be police officers in the United States.

Buddy of mine had an unpaid ticket back in the early 70's! Just a normal speeding or parking ticket, I can't remember. It was stupid! And we crossed the border at Windsor 7 days a week! He had been on the job for almost a year, pre 911, (2000) and one day this OLD ticket popped up on the Canadian side. They turned him around. He had to go to the Canadian Consulate in Detroit to get it straightened out, took a few weeks to get temp clearance to cross the bridge legally and that $1000 payment to make it permanant. And then trying to find that old ticket! He got the ticket before all of the computerization we have today. The Allen Park court house didn't even have a record of it anymore!

You may as well start the process right now, call the Consulant to get the ball rolling. Or at least find out what you are in for. And they do check for child support issues on both sides of the border.

Bill has a DUI from 1989, he told Celadon about it, they told him to attempt to cross the border anyway. OF COURSE they found it, it was a misdemeanor. The only reason he got a day pass was that his drop was 15 miles away. He won't be going back, or paying their stupid money making fees. I think it's so ridiculous. Aren't Canada's national pastimes hockey and BEER? What happens if you commit a crime in Canada? Do they publicly hang you??? I bet they can get back and forth across the US border just fine.

Actually no. The US is more strict on Canadians coming here. They turn you away and that's it. No application for entry.

This post from billsgirl is rediculous, bashing the canadian border guards for doing there job. Almost hypocritical if you ask me because shortly after 911 the americans were complaining about Canadians letting suspect terrorists into the country and now they want us to let known felons in without a problem. I drive cross border into detroit every week have no convictions no legal problems am a fire chief of a local fire dept and get grilled every time i go across like i am a common criminal.I get xrayed pretty much everytime i cross. Going to the dock is another joke as they treat you like a terrorist put you in a little tiny room where you have to ask permission to go to the washroom, real nice. I have friends who have pardons and the US still will not let them cross until they get a waiver which one friend did paid well over $3000 and it ran out after one yr so he had to reapply for it and it cost anothe huge sum of money so the money grab as billsgirl put it is just as bad on both sides of the fence. Here is an idea maybe people shouldnt be driving drunk or committing felonies or crimes at all and there would not be a problem on cross border issues, yeah you might have to put up with the bureaucracy but thats life. Anyway I am done ranting about this but it would be nice if people had facts or did not haveone track minds when trying to argue points about things.

BILLSGIRL you need to get some INFO about the real world , DUI is a dumb ### thing to be :biggrin_2553: about the way he was treated.

Your like the ones who WHINE if they get caught with a FIREARM trying to cross the border into Canada but then condemn Canada if a supposed TERRORIST gets into the USA from Canada ( they let them leave Canada the US lets them into America:biggrin_2555: )
