Hey DAVID, KING here. Don't give up bro. It is possible to become a trucker as a felon. With god on my side, im about to show you. My situation is very similiar to yours. My child's mother is an LPN though. Great money! I have been working at restaurants for 11 years now. Im sick of minimum wage. you can't survive of a check that says you made $350 after working 70-80 hours in 2 weeks. Even with my child's mother making almost 40k a year. It's ridiculous how MITT Romney is pushing budget cuts for the rich and tax increases on mid-class families! Just like my president said a couple weeks ago... He's the new age version of robin hood, only in reverse. He trying to rob the poor and give to the rich. What kinda BS is that! Anyway, my motivation is this beautiful little 4 month old girl sitting next to me right now. Don't let these close-minded people on this site discouraged you. Half of them don't even know what they're talking about. If you take advice from anyone on this site, make sure that what they're saying sounds legit and go back and double check yourself. Google is your friend. You can type it in specifically and it will give you thousands of links with information as close as possible to the truth. Stay focused and prayed up, keeping god first in everything you do. I will keep in touch with you and vice versa. We will succeed together bro.

There was nothing judgmental about it at all. Felons DESERVE TO BE LOCKED AWAY.
They have committed crimes that society says they should be locked away for. What is judgmental about that?

Yes, NW Wisconsin is a great place for a new prison. We have millions of acres of no where to go, but up a tree.

You are so right about that, my friend. In my state, your 2nd DUI is now a felony. So you get your first one in a car, so you resort to riding a bicycle, right? Get caught riding it drunk, its your 2nd DUI and you are now a felon. Crazy stuff.

We had a guy locally who was charged with a DUI for riding his lawn mower while drinking!? I even heard of someone being charged for riding a horse while drinking being charged with DUI. This has really gotten crazy. One of my big pet peeves is the implied consent laws. They violate the constitution but it doesn't seem to matter. The fifth amendment states that we are not required to give evidence against ourselves, yet we must either submit to giving evidence against ourselves or go to jail, lose our license and career (at least in trucking). I have changed my attitude greatly in recent years when it comes to those who have had dealings with the law. It is about the money. It has little to do with right and wrong. I probably should not get started on some of my other pet peeves when it comes to the law. We have had thousands of people who have been wrongly convicted of various crimes. We need to change this system that continues to hold people accountable for their actions long after they have paid their debt to society. The system is corrupt. People go to jail for taking drugs. Most people probably don't realize that it was not that long ago that most of the major drugs were legal. Heroin, cocaine and marijuana were all legal at one time in this country. We also had probation at one time where it was a crime to sell or drink. Now, drugs are illegal and alcohol is legal. I can't see why we need to continue to punish people once they have done their time or paid the price for their behavior. We should be helping them to reenter mainstream society. It is no wonder that there are so many who return to their previous behaviors. If we as a society fail to help these people when they are reaching out for assistance, then we may be forcing them back to old habits in order to survive. So many things should never have been criminalized.

I believe that unless we give people a hand up to help them turn their lives around that we will continue to have a revolving door in our prisons. We give a lot of lip service to rehabilitation in this country. Well, once someone has done their penance it is time to put up or shut up when it comes to giving people another chance. We used to have a lot of felons in this industry. One reason was likely that it was one of the few jobs that they could enter with little scrutiny. That is no longer the case. It is easy to get a background or criminal check on most anyone these days. It makes it difficult to conceal your past. Some people just want a fresh start.

This is just my 2 cents..I am a nobody and am looking to trucking as a career change. I am 33yo. I have 4 felonies 4 misdemeanors on my criminal record. 1 dui and a few speeding tickets. I have never done any prison time or anything like that, just the basic probation and community service stuff. I was a pure hellian in my teenage-early 20's and my charges are from 96-2002.

With that being said, and pointing out the obvious, there are quite a lot of ppl bashing going on here. We were all young once, we all did stupid crap and some of us got caught doing it more than once. Some ppl change, some ppl dont but who are you as a person to tell someone that because they fubared when they were younger that they are trash and a menace to society that deserves to be locked away? I have accomplished quite a bit since my last arrest and i am in no way looking for a pat on the back by anyone by any means. With 4 felonies and 4 md's and dui etc I can't own a gun legally but I can drive an ambulance. I am a paramedic and have been for 6 yrs of my 8 year career in ems. I have touched hundreds if not thousands of lives in 8 yrs. I have been the beacon of hope in ones darkest moment

Moral of the story folks, dont be so quick to pass judgement. A caterpillar wont always be a caterpillar, a tadpole wont always be a tadpole. As said in earlier posts, dont let your past rule you. Ohhh btw if you say why would he want to quit being a paramedic to become a truck driver? Well, that answer is simple.....EMS PAY STINKS!!!!!!!!!!

used to be when you did some of this stuff they take you in to some pasture somewhere and give you a beating, then they just took you behind the dumpster to give you your beating, either way that usually took care of everything most people care about ~ now you get an award for doing those things
