Hi,
I don’t have a trucking background, but I have been wanting to start my own business. I have a strong financial background and my dad has been in the business for 20 years. I am a hard worker and will go above and beyond to learn the business. What do you think? Any recommendations on year/model/price of a truck? Should I jump?

I'm confused. I do understand the question. However, I do not understand women either. So, it could just be me.
Coover, Petty Cash, mhyn and 5 others Thank this. -
3 words of advice,,,don't,,,do,,,it,,Trucking is the most ludicrous, shiftless business one could possibly go into today, heck, you'd be better off selling mobile homes. I sold my truck almost 20 years ago, at THAT time, I deemed it unprofitable. And it has nothing to do with you being a woman, like some women like to play that card. Trucking has moved on from that stereotype, and many women drive trucks today, but to go on your own today, with little or no experience, is plumb foolhardy.
beastr123 and stayinback Thank this. -
Need to learn the business starting out driving , get the cdl then a job, then move up as you learn.
It is a long road usually and also fraught with adversity at times. The post above is advice to consider.beastr123, cjb logistics and 88 Alpha Thank this. -
I mean this is not a business that is easy to make it in. Some of us have been doing it long enough and still fail.
AND what does being a female have to do with it?exhausted379 Thanks this. -
Logistics...
When you understand that, and how it applies to trucking. Then you can consider it. Without experience, you’ll need very deep pockets.
Because you’ll lose your ### in the first 6 months thinking it’s a great idea to send a shiny new truck to Long Island for $4 a mile. Deliver on a Saturday before a holiday. And no load coming out.
Or that you’ll need at least $1 per mile above your baseline just to move a load in California.
I spent 15 minutes laughing my ### off at the last guy that told me he had it all figured out. He just picked the highest paying load on the load board. lolololjammer910Z and kris20 Thank this. -
Good Morning,
I am a Financial Analyst looking to start my own O/O business. I have no experience in this business, but I’m hardworking and more than willing to learn it. I make enough money to live off from my career so every dollar earned will go into a bank account until after the first year. I will pay myself a salary after year one. My dad has 20 years of experience in the business. He will retire in two years and drive for my company. Sound like a good idea?
Where can I learn more about the trucking business? I am not in this to only make money I’m here to learn as well and grow as an individual. I love a good adventure and challenge so this seems to be a good venture for me. Happy to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
If you think it’s a bad idea please provide reasoning. I am an Analyst so I need to understand the “no’s.” Otherwise I will have to touch the fire and see if it’s really hot .Last edited: Mar 23, 2019
