  3. Like mentioned above brokers inflate numbers like the huge egos some have.
Brokers can charge higher to a customer. Example $5000. To move the load. Then post on the Board this load for 2000. Looking for a truck to haul it. Then he gets a fish on the hook. Hagles him down or up, say $2500. Driver thinks he made some money. He didn't know the lane or spot market to know he was had from the get go. Broker makes $2500. For a few hours work. A broker can be shady or honest. When your in the trenches you learn who a bottom feeder is and who isn't.

The industry went through a "must clean the air up from bad bad trucks" the proto-type trucks were years 2006 - 2014 roughly they were built and thrown into the market for the industry to find the flaws in the DPF generation. DPF Diesel particulate filter - Wikipedia
It is a hit and miss on the truck you are looking at. It could have the bugs figured out and be a good truck. Or it could be a money sucking gremlin that. Consumes ever dollar it could make and then some. Do more homework if you want a truck.

most who are making it keep left door closed and work. Also this industry is not for the end goal of making millions, It's to be comfortable at least. Some do this for the view and the friends they meet. Not to mention the places we drive. We don't sit in a cubical, we move America. For better or worse it's one job at at time from point A to point B. With a nice meal in a hole in the wall restaurant, and real people.

Pertaining to XM and a Radio person KR all I will say is.

If you aren't in the game. Don't try and sell me something you've never used in the game.

    OP
Your head may be in the right frame, but what is the goal( not just spare income)
Did your father tell you only the good parts of our industry? And not the really bad parts. You can get some good advice and lots of bad advice from many sources. Do alot and I mean alot of.home work.
Good luck if you decide to jump into the deep end of this pool.

There is a lot of money that can be made by owning trucks. None of it easy. In fact right now is probably the worst time to start a trucking company in 3 years. Trucking boomed right after the President took office and now has entered into a correction sort of like how you describe the stock market. Absolute ####. However, if you were already in then you’ve been loving life the last couple years. If you want in now then it’s tricky and dangerous even for a seasoned pro. This all applies exactly the same for trucking right now.

Where do you live? What type of analyst are you? What do YOU do? Unfortunately although your MBA won’t hurt, it’s not going to help nearly as much as you’d like. Some of the most successful people have only high school diplomas or even no high school education at all. Trucking is an equal opportunity wealth maker or wealth destroyer. It does not discriminate.

To make real money and also not drive the truck yourself, you must have your own authority and book your own loads, do your own billing, collect and fund your own operation, etc. The estimated gross that you saw and heard about may have been true last year, but you wont make that right now. Giving 20 or 25% plus paying your driver will leave you with next to nothing in a down market. This side hustle of yours won’t work unless you put your full energy, passion, and focus on it.

My advice is to read this forum and become an active member over the next year or even two. Focus on three sections.. The owner Operator section which is made up mostly of owner ops and fleet owners. The experienced trucker section, and the brokerage section. Over time you will see a lot of the same themes and questions pop up and you’ll begin to understand more of what’s being talked about. It’ll also give you some time to skip this poor market and the timing will be much better to enter the market in a couple years. At that point you should utilize your Dad to help with the company in a driving capacity. Hire your driver, and when he quits or you fire him/her, then your Dad can step in in the interim so you don’t lose your ###.

I could go on and on and on but this is much more sensible and realistic. We could go into a million different subjects but for now this is my advice. If you aren’t able to stay interested in this forum for even a year, trucking definitely is not for you. It takes major determination, grit, and passion to persevere.

Not criticizing you for having a degree, just wanted to get your point of view. Seams there have been a lot of new posts on here with very highly educated people with degrees that want to get into trucking.

Industry is very cutthroat, with slim margins, and very expensive.

Not wanting to see anyone jump in and get Handed their ### in debt and fail.

Anyways best of luck to you even if there was a misunderstanding due to no tone of context due to being over the internet

The two post I can get behind lol

The market is ####. People like Bezos are so over valued, there’s going to be a bloodbath when it corrects.

The current market is worse than the housing bubble. And people are still trying to recover from that.

    Hello,

I have glanced through some of these posts and deduced these things. You are smart, educated, driven, and have a solid work history. You want to make money in trucking? GARBAGE! Here would be my approach if I was young, smart, educated, and had capitol set aside. Get a job in the garbage industry maybe as a general manager or operations manager. These positions both pay well and our industry is starving for qualified people. You will be required to sign a no compete agreement typically within 50 miles of your service area( no sweat because your just learning and will identify your start up market at a later date). Learn the garbage business and save them big bonus checks. When your ready identify a market with disposal site not owned by the large corporations such as a county owned landfill. Buy some trash carts, commercial containers, and 1 truck. Start building your market share at any cost. The ultimate goal here is to build market share and sell the company for typically 5X your annual revenue. You will sign another 5 year non compete. Sign it, take your money, find another vulnerable market and do it again!!! That's how you can make money in trucking.

    Good luck.

Asking questions on a forum is a lot like asking questions in any public place. You'll get some good answers and some that aren't so good.
If you don't like the answers you get, good or bad, just ignore them. Calling people names and belittling their contribution does nothing but cause problems.
You've had some great advice in this thread. Take some of it, okay?
