Bronx pointed out why carrier choice is so important! There are a bunch of bad players out here. ! Not just for you, female or not, the carrier you go with, is your pay! Its a huge turning point! Do major homework. On here and drivers at truck stops. Ask are you happy with x? 2 sec you will have a ans (weather they have spoke or not) .

Well, had my first experience of being discriminated against today for being a woman. McElroy recruiter showed up today as I'm standing there talking with a fellow student and our lead instructor. Our instructor introduced us to the man and complimented us on being "the best" (insert blush here), and told the guy that I lived 30 minutes away from their base. Meanwhile the recruiter is talking over our instructor and I hear him say "please let me know if y'all have anyone interested because we know they'll do great coming from here!" Ok so they shoot the ##### for a while and at the end, I decide I'm gonna ask him about tarping(since that's my only issue that I'm unsure of with them). I ask him the question and he looks me dead in the face, turns back to the instructor and makes more small talk. No biggy and it didn't hurt my feelings at all, like I thought it would. I just said to myself..."you're an idiot and it's your loss", and went on about my day. Thought I would share the story since it relates to the thread topic and all...

If the recruiter is that ignorant imagine what the rest of the company must be like.
    No loss there.

Thats discrimination? Get real! Hell, I thought you were gonna say you saw a black dude getting swung from a tree. Or, one of the instructors told you, you'd flunk unless you XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX him.

Truth is, you probably asked a stOOpid question, and he ignored you so he didn't bust out laughing.

There are people in this world that have faced and fought real discrimination. Do NOT cheapen the meaning of that word with worthless fodder.

@kansas, you're right. I must've asked a stupid question...that's it. Only you know the meaning of discrimination. What was I thinking?

The company on the truck behind yours in the photo is the one I would love to go to work for, but have to get some experience to do it!

Or, Kansas, the recruiter was like a couple of the idiot car salesmen I've dealt with, who think a woman has no place outside the kitchen. Maybe the question came out different than she'd meant, but as a RECRUITER, it is in his job description to find willing and able bodies to fill the trucks. He could've just said he didn't know the answer, understand the question based on how she'd asked it, or otherwise tried to be civil...but then, some guys are just cavemen.
lilsister, in this case, I'd agree with onetruckpony. You're probably lucky the guy didn't come off as nice, or you may've signed on with the company.
