Hi, I'm 26 years old and married. My husband and I are thinking about team truck driving. I've been looking at companies, CR England, Prime, Rohel, and I'm concerned about the training periods alone in a truck with a trainer. I'm not a prissy woman, but I'm concerned that a male trainer could possibly try something while on the road. I noticed Rohel at least possibly only 13 days at a time x2 for the training, but my husband and I are both concerned about the training. I really would like to get my CDL A and drive with my husband. Any advice would be much appreciated!!!!!!
Female wanting to team with husband, both new to trucking.

Most companies will put a women with a women trainer. And some even shorten the training period for husband and wife teams. Your best bet would be to talk to some recruiters for those companies and express your concerns.

Training won't be the biggest problem you face. Most companies are very strict these days about sexual harassment. As a trainer for werner I had to retake the sexual harassment course yet again. Also in order for me to be able to train opposite sex I had to undergo an extra background check and explain to them why I wanted to train females. I told them I don't care male or female people need to be trained and they need to be trained right. (and on a side note a female smell in the cab over a fat guy smell is all ways nice). Not to be negative but if you value your hubby I would think long and hard about teaming. You will be in a 4ft by 4ft box that never stops moving. You get into a fight you can't just walk away into the other room. Try spending a week or two together in a closest and see how that turns out. Because that is about the same as teaming. But I wish you good luck on your endeavors and might want to research those companies your interested in here on these forums to get the real scoop.

There are companies (I know for sure Swift) that will allow one spouse to train or mentor first then train their spouse. Also at Swift the spouse is schooled and trained for free.
I team with my husband and we've been doing it for almost 2 years now. -
I'm with TEXASNANA, I think the road of least worries would come if your husband went through training at the company you want to work for first, and then let him be YOUR trainer when you follow later...I know Swift does what TEXASNANA said, and so I wouldn't be surprised if other large companies have a similar spouse training program that puts you two together for your training, and keeps you out of an unknown drivers truck

Not sure if England's still allowin it, dont know why they wouldnt be since its really up to the trainer, but since my wife and I signed up together, we were able to do the first part of our training together on the same truck with our trainer. The second part of training was awsome because since they really want husband and wife teams, they put us in a truck by ourselves for the second part of our training that was half as long as it was supposed to be.
mika84 Thanks this. -
every time it comes up, I'm still amazed that England can train 2 drivers at the same time!!! That's 3 drivers in one truck and 2 of them training! I feel those trainer's pain

My wife and I are going to be teaming soon, but we'll both be with a driver trainer getting our "refresher" for several weeks, more than likely.
I've been thru this once before, (long boring story), so Ive got a little insight to share with my wife, you're welcome to read about what I'm sharing with her.....
It's gonna be one of the toughest things you're gonna go thru in a long time and for a long time to come. Its the trainers truck, therefore its thier rules. Plan on driving nights and barely sleeping days. Plan on the music being too loud, the CB being too loud and the phone conversations being too loud while you are trying to sleep. Plan on having to sometimes beg to stop at a rest area to empty your bladder. More than likely, there will be personality clashes. Expect to get blamed for "stuff" you didn't do. There will be "smells" sometimes you most often not you. This will be trial by fire, and its important to keep your eye on the prize, and overlook A LOT OF #####. Drive careful, and don't do anything illegal. NOTHING. If it goes any better that what I've prepared you for, GOOD. If not, at least you were prepared. Oh yeah, sleep with your bra on, and in something comfortable, but ok to be outside in, just in case you have to get out of the truck right then. -
This was the big hang up for my wife and I. Neither of us were comfortable with being apart for that period of time. Thanks so much for your post. We're getting excited about things now.
