Hello everyone my name is Rob Klotz. 25 years young and still wet behind the ears. I am married, my wife is 21 Jaelyn, and our son Ethan is almost 2.
Got a hair under a year and a half in. Went to drivers school in Indianapolis for C1. What a joke that was... Was originally supposed to get hooked up with USA for a year to pay for the school (thank god that didn't happen).
I got hooked up with Star Transport out of Morton, IL. They lured me in with the promise of being a family oriented company and promising 3 weeks a month home time. (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhaha).
First trainer picked me up at the yard, didn't smoke, wouldn't let me smoke. Grumpy old man trying to be young bass player, major personality conflicts when he started praising the almighty jebus.
Three weeks into training, I'm asleep in the bunk and jesus freak bass player decides he is going to piss in his bottle and not pay attention to the road at the same time. Who knew when you swerved on the shoulder your trailer follows and will hit that abandoned car. All this going on while I am peacefully sleeping away in the bunk (who the hell wears the straps anyways). Jesus praising bass player decides to lock up the breaks.
Now, I am not a small guy, I'm 5'9 at best and about 250 before taking a dump. Of course we had a one of the new streamlined smaller peterbilts and guess whose fat ### goes flying forward, smacking the cabinet with head and knee and ending up wrapped around the gear shifter.
I am in ungodly pain, I got a killer headache, my knee is hurting like nothing else. He tells me to go out the reflectors, I get down out of the truck, cant stand on my leg and fall over screaming at him and jebus.
Long story short, knee is ok and apparently I have a hard head so my pea didn't get rattled too badly. I get taken to the ER via ambulance and he goes on to deliver the load. But never fear! Star sends a driver out of route to pick me up and carry me home on his way to GA (also out of route). Nicest guy I ever met I have to say so far. Let me sleep in his bed, use his blankets and pillow, and slept in the front while I was zonked out in the back when he had to take his 10hr break.
Ok, now everyone take a breath, and rub your eyes, I know I'm long winded.
I recently got the go ahead from Transport America. There is good and bad here on the boards but I take it with a grain of salt.
I'll post my exploits starting from the experience of telling my dispatcher I was quitting till the end, providing I find the right section to post that in.
I been around the business pretty much since my step dad came along (I was 8 ish) He's pretty much the only dad that's been there, so he is dad even if I don't have his last name, he is dad and he knows it. Dad drives, grandfather drove till he got too old and no one would hire him, and idiot brother drives as well.
I will give you guys a break for now, but if someone could point me to the right section, I sure would be appreciative of you.
Figure I better introduce myself

Best of luck to you!Baack and AfterShock Thank this. -
Your story-telling is a welcome relief from what we get most of the time around here, LOL, we get....."I'm the world's greatest driver, never did anything wrong, perfect record, well, except for....and my company fired me. (those "except fors" are great. The old hands usually nail them on their BS pretty quick. It's fun to watch it unfold.) Welcome to the forum. There's a great bunch of folks on this board.
(P.S. Be careful around the fiery grandmas lurking around here!
)
AfterShock, shriner75 and Baack Thank this. -

Welcome, Klotz. There is a bit of bad out and about with Transport America, but it was possibly the best outfit I worked for. I didn't stay long, but that was due to my own screw-up, and nothing bad on the company. They treated me real well, and while the equipment wasn't the newest, they took maintainence extremely serious. They are also serious about safety, and HOS. Just relax, do your job the way we are supposed to, and enjoy. They'll give you all the miles you want, provided the freight is available, and if you live in the right area (most drivers do), they will get you home most weekends. Indeed, the weekends I stayed out were at my request, rather than under company dispatch. The pay is better than some, maybe worse than others. But there are side benefits (like the "Do not disturb" macro on the Qualcomm) that make it worthwhile. And the dispatchers (at least the ones I dealt with) are upfront and honest. I'm OUT!
