Somehow, about 5 weeks ago I got into a rut of running every weekend. I took a load that delivered on a Friday nite that ended up in Springdale Ark, and then grabbed a couple of loads coming back out of there. And in doing so, I ran out of hours and took a 34 in the middle of the week, rather than the usual practice of doing it on the weekend. As a result, I have been walking into friday mornings with 50 or more hours available, and have been picking up weekend work.
Now, I'm not knocking weekend stuff, because it pays us extra, and just the past week, I made a $1900+ gross for the week. Sunday was a 700 dollar day because I picked up over 100 in detention in addition to the nearly 600 the 527 mile load paid to begin with, did some other running through the week, took a 34, and then went back to the same place the following Saturday morning for another 600 to bookend the week.
But, after several weeks of this, I told my regional manager (who is filling in as distpatcher this week) that I needed some weekend time. I am finishing up a 34 right now, and what we decided on is for me to pickup a load in Chicago that delivers 30 miles from the house tomorrow at 2 pm, then take the rest of Friday off, all of Saturday, and then pick up a load of dextrose heading to Kimper Ky for monday am delivery. I will have to leave the house on Sunday afternoon to make it happen, but at least I get some semblance of a weekend off and can get some of my own stuff done.
I don;t mind running my fair share of weekend stuff, but this has been a little bit out of hand. If I manage my hours carefully, then I can get back into a somewhat more regular schedule.

Have a wonderful weekend - you deserve it!!!

Woohoo! Glad to hear that your regional manager is cooperating to get you your much-needed time off! After all, you have all those young blueberry bushes needing tending...

And Burky? I think about you every time I pick up blueberries in the store. They had a good run this year, but are now up to $2.98/pint, and my limit is $2.50. So I guess my season is done.
But I have to say -- it was sweet while it lasted!
Enjoy your weekend! -
How is the Job Market in Mi? I have been thinking of moving back to Mi., (grew up South Of Jackson)..

Have fun Burky, you definitely deserve a weekend off, although at that rate of pay, how can you say no?
Ahh, the mountaintop bakery in Kimper, been there enough times. Watch out for the coal trucks, and the whitetail on the green mountain parkway!
