I took a buyout from my current job and my last day is 4/27. My intention is to start CDL school on 5/1. Looking for some sage advice on companies that will hire new grads in the Saginaw Michigan area.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Saginaw Michigan area; lots of choices.
Get all the endorsements plus TWIC. Hazmat endorsement plus TWIC open a lot of doors.
Is OTR ok or what interests you?

    Opus and tscottme Thank this.

OTR or regional. Id really love to run tanker but it looks like Schneider would be my only option right out of school. I've read so many terrible reviews on them.

I would strongly suggest you delay going to CDL school until AFTER you do enough research to find the trucking company you want to work for, first.
The company that is perfectly matched for you may have their own CDL school, in which they pay you to go to CDL school. Or, that company may only hire newbies from one or a few CDL schools which are not convenient to you, now. CDL school is JUST to learn enough to pass the state exam. The trainer at your first employer will train you on the real-world procedures and supply the 95% of info about the job the CDL school never got around to teaching. About half of trucking companies that hire newbies, like you, offer Tuition Reimbursement TR to new-hires. EVERY CDL school will find someone to provide a school loan to pay for CDL school. Even if you don't need to borrow money for school, it may be worth it to borrow it because your employer may not offer TR unless you have an outstanding school loan. More than one person on this forum has paid for their own CDL school and learned their employer will not offer them TR because there is no school loan to repay. You will not have enough time, once you begin CDL school, to do the research to find the trucking company best suited to you and your needs. Without lots of time to research you will inescapably be pulled into one of the super mega trucking companies that hires, and fires, thousands of new drivers per year. The goal is to get a great job, not just any trucking job. Avoid CR England like they are poison. They advertise online more than other companies and a brief online search will make them seem like the only big company hiring newbies. They are not, they are just the worst company hiring newbies. Under no circumstance consider leasing a truck "be your own boss" or working for a 1099 company as a newbie. You should look for the best possible W-2, or company driver, CDL job that fits your needs for time at home, your location, the type of work you prefer (dry van, reefer, flatbed, or tanker). If you rush into the industry with no preparation there is an 80-90% chance you fail and leave the industry within a few months. 80-90% of newbies do excatly that because they mistakenly believe 'all trucking companies are alike'. They are not.
