    dryside made a good point.

Cabbage is in the area of Eastern Oregon.

This one is one of my favorite pulls and downs in the west particularly in winter storms because it's a good for me sort of thing for who I am.

Here is a video from a Scottie who has a pretty good series of videos, one of them on Cabbage at least. He's rolling along not too bad for me but for those who don't see big hills might be put off by the speed. But I can vouch that rig is stable all the way down.

Sandstone in West Virginia is another hill that I have seen life and death on this one many times. Here is a video showing a big truck already past any safe braking, faded into smoking prior to fire. He decides wisely to take the ramp. This one is shot from a car that is not really affected by the hill and rather too fast for me but it's a good smoke video.

Ramps are usually deep beds of material and you will get stopped. I never used them however I have smoked in the past several times, my area when I did did not have ramps so, it was to get off the hill and slow to drifting speed which worked out to around 25 or so and keep moving until the brakes cool and the smoke quits rolling, that takes a couple hundred miles worth of west virginia one time I did that. (I was very... full of myself on western maryland and the third of 5 passes was too much with no jake etc. so it was my problem)

Here is the video of the rig using the ramp because beyond these ramps are more mountain with more hills and curves that may not be survivable to a runaway.

Most mountains on the interstate systems have grown a large amount of signage, mostly in your language you can understand over the years and have gotten really good. Your job is to have that rig stable at the prescribed speed or lower.
