So...being it's September and all, do I need to have chains on if I decide to go back to Billings if the pay justified it? Either through ND or WY. Not sure I remember the laws. I don't have chains nor do I ever plan on chaining. Not saying I never will, I just don't plan on it.
Got empty early after a good 2.25 day weekend at home. Got a load toward StL. See what I can do with a short week. Gonna try for $6500-7000 but not sure. Don't wanna go to FL. I think this Irma might actually hit FL. Already a strong Category 5. Scary.
If it hits and hits hard.... don't even want to think about it. Not sure how it would affect us out here if we got not 1 but 2 disaster areas.
I'd stay out of FL if I were y'all. Don't go there for a weekend load. I might consider north Florida but that depends on what it's doing and the trajectory on Friday morning.
This load that I'm on, almost the exact same load as two weeks ago. MI to StL, same receiver, shipper 30 miles apart, same distance, got $100 more than last time.
Gnight.
Finally got my own truck

As a general rule I'd suggest chains hanging by mid sep the law here says
oct 1st
I keep mine on year round you just never know
It's been pretty hot in the west but that'll change overnight -

If for nothing more then appearance and public relations you should have chains hanging.
-
Earliest required chains is Sept 1st. But that's for 100 mile stretch on I70 west of Denver.
Ran the UP on US 2 on one of my first solo runs. Great scenery for sure. Good road.
FYI: Bring cash when crossing that bridge. I had to pull ahead and park before walking across the roof of the entire toll booth structure. Bout psyched myself out with view I had of what was to come! -
Copper ... UP had natural copper.
dunchues Thanks this. -
The thing with chain laws is you need them in or on the truck weather you use them is another thing. But most state laws make you have them on the truck in case you need them. A lot of guys have been going to Auto Socks easy to store and easy to use.

Been a bit since I updated.
Last week was kinda crappy. Short week with labor day. Got a load MI to StL then to south OK - good rate, just nothing coming out. Ended up dh to memphis and stayed there for the weekend visiting friends.
This week I started from West TN and am ending up in middle TN.
2825 loaded, 300 mt, $8000 gross. Didn't go south into TX or FL or anything crazy.
$1850 on 820, $800 on 410, $2000 on 610 and $3350 on 987 got lucky on that last one, my broker gave me the heads up on it, and was able to lock me on it. At 8am no less!
I'ma have to send her something.
It's nuts out here. I feel sorry for these brokers tearing their hair out. I hardly have been posting my truck. Seems like I can get what I need without having to do that as often. And I don't feel bad about calling on a load and giving my rate. They still like to think that if the carrier calls, that gives them justification to quote 1/3rd less than avg. Lol.
Next week I'm going for $9000. I may just hit $250k gross if it keeps up like this. I'm currently sitting at $169,550 on about 92,000 all miles.BloatedDog, Lepton1, Tug Toy and 3 others Thank this.
