Are these same shippers still going to take 4 hrs to load a truck? Coz believe me their freight will get there late if they're still playing those games. Chatting to another owner where I've currently been sitting due to a shipper loading the wrong freight on my trailer. I'm at CVS in Rhode Island, freight was meant for NY. Will you brokers have a problem signing detention contracts?

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

So let's use this example I live in Denver Colorado, if I run in state I don't need ELD this state is exempt. There are truck companies that relay freight all the time who will they police that. Heck just show them a phone app who knows if it's correct. I don't think the normal shipping clerk has a clue. Where's your source?

And what will these same shippers say when the only truck that shows up is on paper?

The new found respect for the hours of service still on their radar? Doubt it.

I don't have any shipping clerks that don't work at Walmart in my contacts. The policy is coming from the director of transportation level people.

Maybe they should look harder at the drivers..... Not how the truck is dressed? Plenty Elog trucks laying in the ditch and stuck in construction zones all across this country. Truck is just a tool, driver is the heart of it.

You can rest assured we won't be signing anything we can't get our customers to sign. There WILL be a lot of frank conversations about loading times and rates. My customers have gotten the message at least. My main produce account was taking 2-3 hours to load trucks on average this year with a sizeable % showing up and leaving loaded in under an hour.

The shippers aren't stupid. They will do what they have to do just like we all will.

    Feedman and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this.

They already look hard at brokerage service levels. Brokerages look hard at trucking company service levels (which are a composite of the average quality of their drivers). Trucking companies look hard at driver service levels.

Yes at the end of the day only two things matter: good drivers and good freight. If you have either your business is cooking with gas. If you have both the business will make you rich. If you have a strong supply of either the other is actively looking for you.

Guess I'm lucky or blessed? 2 million + miles with Zero accidents over the course of my driving career. Just gripes my butt that ALL drivers are pretty much put into the same spotlight! Lot of good drivers out here, old and young. I'll tip my hat when I see Elog making a difference in safety, I mean that's what they are being installed for, is safety right? Be safe out there, and thank you for your service to the trucking world.

Yeah I kind of feel the same way about the guys on my side. I SORT of wish so many of them weren't so crummy. But at the same time them being awful is kind of good for me? I have mixed feelings about it.

No group of people are as bad as their worst representatives. Except for life insurance salespeople. If you aren't an insanely rich person referred to them by your estate planner the guy tried to rob you when he mentioned whole life. If he mentioned an annuity he DEFINITELY tried to rob you. Since there's very little chance he (or she I guess men hardly have a monopoly on being scum sucking sociopaths) didn't try to sell both of them within a few sentences of each other more than once I'd say my characterization of that occupation is on point. I don't like the funeral/wedding industries much either come to think of it.

Wait a second. Are you saying Wal-Mart is your only customer? Or do you mean its the only customer you have a onsite poc with?
