See there's really nothing to it. No need to overthink anything just play off what you're hearing. And yet you will have guys on here say there is no way you could possibly get $800 more than a posted rate. I've seen brokers pay a couple of thousand more. Wish it happened every day but then that would be too easy right?

I worked at a place that had a huge sign. "You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate!"

You're off to a good start by negotiating that way.

Well I'm here at the consignee and can't unload early. 10pm appt. Will be empty here in Macon and everything coming outta GA is $1.10/mi. Dispatcher found load to granite city for just over $1/mi but found out it was scrap metal, which is a no go with a brand new food grade dry van. $1.20 to TX $1.40 to east coast. Terrible.

Supply and Demand. Slow freight ,lots of capacity, brokers can get freight moved cheap and keep 1.00 per mile.

    Those are some cheap rates!!!

GA is bad now. TN may be even worse I saw 45 van loads within 100 miles of me today. For there to be any money in it there ought to be 600+ loads.

I think I'm gonna try to get whatever I can going somewhere to central or western IL area. One day load hopefully, I try to avoid loads that are like 800-1000 miles, means I might not get unloaded the next day in time to get another one. 500-700 miles are good, or 1200-1400 unless the pay justifies it. Right now it seems like the entire southeast is just dried up.

It is until spring. Best to stay north in the snow and weather but even up there from what I hear things are down. Happens every year this time you just grind it out or park it. Good time to catch up on maintenance issues. Speaking of load volumes that's something you always want to keep an eye on. If you know a certain radius always has XXX number of loads then suddenly it has X,XXX number of loads it's a spike in freight and rates will go up with it.

@BoyWander ....DONT smack me for this...lol

How about tryna negotiate this rate up...

That way, you pocket some, while rates in the south reset in the next few days

I just did a quick 200 mile radius around Macon, GA

$2,200 on 775 loaded looks good until you read the comments where it says "round trip" so 775 is really 1,550 miles. All of a sudden $2.83 turns into $1.41 Some rascally broker trying to generate calls on a phoney rate.
