I can't for the life of me, understand how
Someone with new truck payments can
Come close to competing with no name,
Foreigner,25 year old truck and trailer.
That they paid 20 grand for both of them combined.
It's simple mathematics.
They can pull freight at 90 cpm and be happy.
They're starting to outnumber the mega's.
Finally got my own truck

Look at the market right now. Too many trucks and not enough freight to go around.

I am sure he's doing all right. Spot market is not any worse from the time when he started. Besides, it has not even been a year of this drought yet.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Things like that rather don't take place. Unless someone brought fortune here and had a whim to become a trucker - quite possible though - glamorous myths of US trucking still very vivid around the world. On the other hand, not all the immigrants arriving are bums, you know...Not a XIX century.Bean Jr., Rideandrepair and mladen86 Thank this. -
Look at what their driving.
It's a huge advantage having paid for equipment.
Even if it is old junk.
They don't have to meet a 800 dollar a week
Truck payment.
There gonna put everybody out of business.
There multiplying by the month.
Open your eyes.
Somebody's got to go under.
And it's not going to be them.just_sayin, Rocknroller4, Midwest Trucker and 3 others Thank this. -
2004 was good. 2005-2009 was bad and 2010 was even worse. I forget exactly when the bottom was, spring 2011, I believe. I recall hearing Werner downsized their fleet by 30%. I recall thinking this is the bottom, as they’re not going to run Trucks around without a profit. Sure enough a few months later it started picking up. Aside from a few glitches in 2014/2015 it’s been steady increases. Last year was a fluke. Much ado about nothing. Like y2k scare. Industry has adjusted and is filled with New Big Eyed Operators who waited till rates were high, easy money!!! That’s why they won’t last long. The rest of Us who have and will be Trucking will carry on, nothing new, Truckers have been complaining about “The Rates” for as long as I can remember, along with “ The new Breed of Driver”, and just about everything else. Lol Some things never change. The good old days are subject to selective memory.

A spike in oil and or food prices, slow down of new Car sales, Slowdown of House sales. Then Credit tightens up, and The party’s over. I’ve seen it happen twice, 1978-1982 and 2005-2011. Different reasons and details, but same results.A lot of financial pain. Each time held great opportunity for anyone with cash. It’s going to happen again. Has to for Capitalism to survive. Hopefully not as bad as the last time. Once in a lifetime is enough for Me.

Please don’t use .90 cpm as an example. 1.35 to describe cheap freight at a minimum. Don’t want to open up that door. Lol. I run an old Truck bought for $21 k 11 yrs ago. I’ve paid as much as $69 k for a 1 yr old 1999 Classic. What a deal it was. Still too rich for my blood today. I paid attention to who survived the last recession. It was Guys with Old paid off Trucks. All the new ones went back to the Bank. And most of those Guys upgraded at the right price. It’s about to happen again, next spring I’ll bet Auctions will be blowing them out.
