You get $2.8-$3 to FL, then you deadhead to SC or TN. Dont bother with those heavy cheap outbound FL loads.
For example, Atlanta to Detroit you would get offered $900 now, but Knoxville to Detroit would get you the same money, so you just will be driving empty couple hundred miles, saving fuel and wear and tear on your truck.
But even better try stay along i80 and north of it in this season. Start going south in the spring. All the scared of the snow truckers are hanging in the south now and its super hard to make good money in that area.
Finally got my own truck

People going crazy about $0.92 cpm load he took. Why do you think inbound FL freight pays $3? Or why going to Northeast pays $3 and then $1 back?
-
IMO the reason Flordia rates are low. Supply and demand yes, but all the fleece purchase and pay per mile carriers that pay deadhead send their trucks down there to keep their customers happy, But all the brokers know they pay empty miles and at what rate and know the carriers will take the cheap rates instead of taking money out of their pockets to pay DH.They don't care if it is a time consuming floor load that will have you sit a extra day on a weekend.Remember they get all their money before the driver gets any.
You don't know what the shipper is paying, only what the broker is offering. As long as lease purchase or rent a ride is the popular business model, rates in some areas will remain extra low.Oxbow, Eldiablo, RollingRecaps and 1 other person Thank this. -
Florida has a large population that consumes a lot. They don't have a lot of manufacturing. So all these trucks are going there and there's not enough freight for them all to get so u have to wait. It might take a shipper a couple days to get a truck to ship to Florida but shipping from Florida they probably don't have that problem.
I'll probably continue to go there if the rate is good enough. Maybe I'll plan a triangle route or figure out a better way of getting outta there besides 90cpm all the way back north.77fib77 Thanks this. -
Just went to Speedco here in whiteland, in. They couldn't do my oil change because they can't get the oil filters off because the factory put them on too tight. They said it's a common occurrence for new trucks.
So I did everything else for the PM except that. Was gonna get Rotella T5. -
Tell them they turn the other direction. That is a crock of horse #### about factory putting them on to tight. They went on, they come off. I would have left as soon as they put new oil in. They just need to fork over money for the proper tools.

What is Speedco charging these days for a full pm on a truck and trailer? Filters, oil, grease - everything?

One tip I can give you to save you some down time.....
Grease your truck yourself. Hand grease gun is cheap and so is a box of grease tubes. Speedco and all other lube places only pump a couple pumps of grease where it needed. They don't pump until it starts coming out around say the u joints. You will start having early problems if you rely on shops to grease. You don't want premature kingpin failure either. I have only had 1 u joint go out on my truck in 10 years, knock on wood, and I think that's bc I do all my own maintenance the correct way. I spend 4 hours doing a PM on my truck. I take my time and do it right. Yes I could do it in an hour or so if I hurry, but I like to get all the oil I can out of the pan. I let it drip while I grease and check all major components.
