Nice, I love factory tours.. Also gives you a bit more insight into how they're put together, for troubleshooting, etc.

Went to Graff Volvo in Flint, MI today to get DOT inspection. They are doing a promo right now where they don't charge for them at all - so I got the inspection for free!

I also had them re-torque my lug nuts and put proper air in the tires, and also bought a couple of extra glad hands - though I won't be doing any dropping and hooking except for maybe when a customer requires truck to be unhooked, it's a bad thing to happen to destroy an air supply and no way to repair it on hand, and can't move until it's fixed. So I got stuff for that. I also went to Wal Mart and bought some tools.

So I got all the paperwork scanned and emailed to my boss so now I'm ready to go. He's having me go pick up a new trailer from the factory in Lafayette, IN, so I'm going to take off Sunday and get down there so I can get the trailer Monday and start running.

Also boss suggests a log program called https://www.trucklogger.com/ for my laptop. Right now it doesn't work on phones, but laptop is fine. All I'll have to do is just click a button and it sends the completed logs right to him. I also got a printer/scanner and got it all set up with my laptop. This way I can just scan my BOL and email it to him so I can get paid.

Hope it works out for you, $200 for Trl rent, $2-250 a week for cargo insurance. 90% of gross sounds good, keep moving brother. I'm on the fence about pulling the trigger on a new truck myself.

Shiny new trailer also! Don't forget pics when you get hooked to it. Good luck I hope you do well. Just stay busy and don't get lazy.

I base this off nothing more than instinct but I think now is a good time to get into trucking and the worst is behind us. Even the EOBR mandate doesn't change what I think about that.

More important than glad hands is having an extra set of hoses. If anything will break, it will be the hose, rather than the glad hand.

Pick up a set of the gladhand handles. $15 well spent, since you're not putting any pressure on the hoses themselves when hooking or dropping.

As long as the truck is more than 10% used outside of Michigan, you don't have to pay Michigan sales tax. Same with repairs and such. But in my experience, you have to ask for it. They didn't just volunteer that info.

Also, repairs done in Michigan are exempt.

In ten years of doing intermodal, I have replaced only one glad hand, and that was because it was lost with the hose. I have replaced at least a dozen hoses. They crack in the cold, they hang up on corners while jackknifing.

If you want to keep extra glad hands, do so. But if you have to choose one or the other, hoses would be better.

I don't know if they do warranty work, but this place has done me right, when I ran my expediter. They'll do a good alignment, if you need one. Also, they won't rape your wallet with bull**** repairs. Always good to have an ace in the hole, in case your main mechanic can't do something.
