Sounds like you want to change for the sake off changing.(a sort off boredom)

Definitely bored with tanks but I'd never make a change without due diligence
I'm thinking it's one I could afford though but either way it's a couple years down the road
As far as home time goes as a company driver hauling gas I was gone less than 40 nights over 20 years as an owner I've been out over night at least one night a week because of weather I expect to be gone less spring summer and fall
I think for business if I could afford insurance I'd run my own 1 truck tanker company but to afford that I'd need to be on my own for a few years that's why I'd be interested to be a flatbed operator for a couple years to get to do something different and then maybe be able to add hazmat to my business later

@Drake.r .... stay with the fuel hauling till there is no money left in it. You would not like the hours and headache of load boards. I'm sitting here right now drinking a beer, watching the flatbed next to me tarp and strap his load, even offered to help, just to be ignored. He must be having a worse day than I am. Anyway, I know fuel haulers and what they get for what they do and you would be disappointed in anything else. Unless you just want to hit the open road, then by all means have at it.

To truly do your due diligence, look at your money per mile, per hour, per day, per week. Looking at just mileage Pay is only part of the equation. All I'm saying is take a hard look at what your doing before you jump ship. And remember when talking to drivers, you have to cypher thru the BS to get to the truth. I know so many guys that inflate what they are making, to make themselves feel good. I even have friends that I know what they are making, and I catch them in their lies all the time, and call them out. Boy does that make them happy. Any way, I'm rambling, I think the beers are catching up. I got hung up at a stop till tomorrow, thanks to another driver doing the wrong thing, when I should've made it home tonight, so beer it is.

You drink beer in your truck on breaks? Lol.. yeah he'd be disappointed for sure. Try to tell guys that want to dive into it out here, especially into the wonderful world of loadboards, don't do it you're going to really be disappointed. But they mostly don't listen. Then you have the other side of the spectrum. People saying dive right in the water's fine, would be best to get your own authority....

Well if I'm shut down for 12 hours, you betcha, but only a six pack. Don't want to feel like crap tomorrow. If there was a place to grab a steak dinner, I'd be there. But beer in the truck at customers lot it is.

Ya. They told me where to go buy it. I've sat and drank with some of the customers, and they wouldn't even let me pitch in for beer money. I'm in a more specialized market. It has its perks

But I always make sure I have at least 10 hours or more from my last drink till I have to drive, and I never really drink more than a few beers. It may not sound like it, but I am responsible with it.

That's enough for a DUI if some punk cop came around. Too risky. I like to drink but have a fast easy rule of no alcohol period on the road. Doesn't even matter if it's a 34 hour break but thankfully I always do those at the house every weekend.
