You can apply now. Each website has application. Companies will offer you a job contingent upon successfully completing cdl school and having any required endorsements. Get all the endorsements, especially hazmat. Pulling reefers you may occasionally get a hazmat load such as paint or fingernail polish, etc. The real wicked stuff, other companies that specialize in hazmat will get.

I plan on getting all the endorsments. Also working on my TWIC card and I just got my new passport.

Funny story, I went ahead and took and passed the exams for tanker, hazmat and doubles/triples when I took the exam for my CLP. Not realizing that since I didn't have my CDL yet, the endorsements are only good for 90 days. So I'll have to take the endorsement exams again. But no biggie, they weren't that hard at all.

If anyone in your class wants a tanker job, Tidewater Transit is hiring drivers that graduate from accredited cdl schools.
This isn't a coast to coast job.
    About Tidewater Transit:
Tidewater Transit is a family owned company that was founded in 1949 by C. Felix Harvey and Mr. Charles Smith. Tidewater Transit was established with $5,000 of capital to service an agricultural business belonging to Mr. Harvey, with initial cargoes consisting of gasoline, anhydrous ammonia, and petroleum. Mr. Smith was the driver while his wife, Nina, handled the books. Together, they built a lean operation with a family atmosphere. They focused on avoiding debt without sacrificing the ability to meet evolving customer needs. These factors formed the basis for a company culture that continues to drive success today. Over the years, Tidewater Transit has emerged as one of the most respected and trusted bulk carriers in the southeast.
We are currently looking for CDL Class A Drivers to join our team. We are looking for drivers with Tanker endorsement. We offer a family atmosphere with a great team of people and really great hometime! We are offering an excellent compensation plan and OUT AND BACK RUN with benefits, 401k and more.

Will hire students from accredited Driving Schools!

BTW - I'm not tied to the idea of OTR in all 48. Just something I thought I might want to try and experience. I could hate it or I could love it. I'm open to everything at this point to be honest. Luckily, I still have 4 or 5 months to narrow things down and decide what I would be the most comfortable doing. Lots of options out there!
