So I've been out on the road with my trainer for almost 5 weeks, home time for 3 days, and trainer switch. I go in tomorrow to upgrade in West Valley. Great...I get a $100 upgrade bonus. My issue, is that or the last 2 weeks I've had negative paychecks, while training, due to child support being taken out. It has been almost 2 years since ive been able to have a steady income and get caught up and hopefully ahead with bills. I was HOPING to be able to get out on the road solo for at least a month before I asked HR to automatically deduct my child support. Well Oregon got to HR quicker. My question is, realistically, with about $500 taken out each week, for child support, tuition payments, etc...before taxes, is driving truck worth it? The way I see it, is I could be living at home, being around my children almost every night, and make $50 a week working McDonalds. Anybody have experience with this sort of issue? Anything I can do to be able to afford to live out on the road as well support my family back at home?

To get things straight, I do love my son, and WANT to do my part, and when I'm home I do, as best I can. I have do NOT want to avoid paying the support, just curious if it's possible to make around$600-$700 a week, without burning myself out too quickly. With making that much, I'd at least bring home about $300 after all said and done, $100 for me a week while out on the road, and $200 a week to send back to the family to pay bills.

Just what kind of money did you agree to work for ?
Heck at .25 a mile and just 2000 miles a week is 500 bucks.
That is less than 300 miles a day .
If you are working for less than that then you really need to rethink your employment with the company you have sold your soul to for chump change.

I never said I WANTED to live like that, that's why I'm doing what I can to better my family. And no I don't want a "do over", if I did that, I wouldn't have my son. Hell...I'd do it all over again for him. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it to keep pursing driving, or find something local where I will at least get a positive paycheck.

And in regards to what I signed up for, .28 cents a mile after training, and at the VERY most I will see for miles is 2800, unless I go owner op.

Our apartment, we don't pay for. We are on HUD housing, it's nice to not pay rent and get help...but we are only using it to get back on our feet. Told the manager when we moved in that I will be making her do paperwork again soon, she was worried and wondered why. I told her because I DON'T enjoy not having a job.

Well maybe, just maybe he is trying to be responsable now. I have been married twice, still on 2nd one,,had 5 kids by the time I was 20 and had custody of all 5. We went on welfare for the 20mo's I went to college to better myself. Maybe the OP is at that point in his life now. I don't think he would have come on here asking for advice if he just WANTED to be a bum, so give him a brake.

Dude, you speak as if you think I enjoy this lifestyle...oh ya, I LOVE being away from my family, I LOVE not being able to watch my kids grow up and laugh...and I'm just driving for the hell of it. ####, some people are so ignorant. Yes...fingers pointing at you Transam Pete. And to go into more detail, one kid is mine, the other is my fiancee's son. I love her son as my own, so I'm doing what I think is needed to provide for both as best I can. Not a day goes by where I don't think about what I can be doing better for my children, how to get to that point where I can offer my family more, and what I can do to one up that. So don't speak as if you know me. For all you know I could have been a vet, fought for your freedom, layer my life on the line, wife at the time decides to sleep with my ex best friends while I was gone, then decide she didn't want to work and have me pay everything. Oh and then let's say something happened while serving that made it hard to acquire a job, yet down the road this opportunity came by. Still think that person is irresponsible? Hope ya feel like an ### now. ;-).

But I didn't post to argue or defend myself, I came to ask for suggestions. But hey, welcome to the Internet...right? Lol

I'm confused what is a positive paycheck?

As for your money woes keep working, if you find something better jump on it but be aware fences tend to lense light and make opposing landscapes appear more vibrant. In short the first rule of getting out of a hole is to stop digging. Right now you have a job if low paying and from what I have heard of the sons of chester they will deep fry your testicles if you bail early.

Do not, and I mean do not consider their lease, fleece, fake O~O bs. You do not have the money to get started, you do not have the experience, and you do not have the business sense. I mean nothing personal by that but your question bears that opinion out.

Are you gonna get rich? Nope. But put in your time while keeping you eyes open for opportunities after you fulfill your present agreement and you'll do fine.

Thank you Sheepdog. There is that point in every persons life where they look back at what got them to a certain point and they think...wtf was I doing with my life. Hell, I'm constantly telling my parents sorry for being such an ### when I was a child. I listen to my sons and think "you little ####...you are just like me" lol
