Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had financed their school through a bank? The school I am looking at has a company they finance through but it has an 18% interest rate and to be honest that's just crazy. I have looked into a couple of grants however I currently make just a little (like 200 a month more than the cap) too much to get one. If anyone has any thoughts or has experience going through a bank let me know.
Thanks,
JARose

Was WIA one of the grants you looked at?
In hindsight, I would take the high interest only if it came down to a choice between the loan and company sponsored training, but yeah. 18% is pretty highJarose88 Thanks this. -
Perhaps a secured, private loan? I mean most schools 'round here are at 3-4k tuition

I do believe that was one of the first ones I had looked at but I will have to check again. I don't plan on going through company training if I can avoid it I am going to check a couple of banks and see if there is anything I can get.
I was going to talk to my mom and dad about borrowing the money but...my dad is completely against the idea of me driving so I doubt that I could get it through them and I don't really have anyone else to go to. -
hey not sure if this helps but what i did was applyed for a student loan its 6% and thats all i get to use it for it kinda back fireed on me allitle bit but never the less i am finnishing upo shcool next friday and road test following wednesday hope you can get it to work for you to

Great job starting out.
You are finding out about trucking before signing up for somthing.
Tell your father that you are gainning a skill that comapnys will hire you for later. Not nessasarrly trucking. They will hire you and you can move some trucks around in a comapny. I.E. example, when you have a production plant they have trcuks moving in and out all hours of the day and night. some times they need an empty trailer moved to or from the building(keep the plant running).
In the place I worked they had nobody in the shipping depatment tha could do it.
Also gaining valuable higher paying skills, better than low paying job.Jarose88 Thanks this. -
Yeah, I tried to explain that there is more too it than just OTR trucking. By the way he is a driver for YRC so he knows what a CDL allows you to do he is just all together against the idea and he didn't want to hear anything I had to say other than CDL. After those words came out his ears went shut and he got pissed. My mom had the sense of reality to realize that I could do more than just trucking
Thanks to the moderator that changed my title makes more sense.

Whatta know RickG, I finally agree with you on something
Alot of people are dropping in the first year. JaRose, if I were you, I would visit a school that has Financial Aid from the government available. Then, you could get your school paid for up front. Hopefully, the school you choose works with companies that pay tuition reimbursement, and you can get your student loans paid for on the backside. This way, instead of a company taking money out of your check each payday, they will be adding money to it. Good luck to ya!
