Normally we ship in full trailer quantities - 48' flat to 53' Step, legal height & width, legal weight, no tarp. Finding haulers for these loads is relatively easy. Occasionally we have a partial load to move. Finding haulers who may have space available and a compatible route is proving to be a much more difficult task. We would greatly enjoy hearing ideas, comments, suggestions about ways to let haulers know when we have a partial load available. Thanks, K.

If you are posting your loads with a broker then you should have load info on it.
I know when I was hauling flatbed, our company would haul partial loads allot. Many times we would head out with 1/3 of our deck empty and why not use the space if something was available.
We would find partial loads going to a destination that was somewhat near where the final stop of the rest of the load went. Or that delivered in route.
These loads were posted on the boards like any other load. When posting them they would list pickup loc, del location, dimensions (for needed deck space), weight, if tarps are needed and if so what size, etc.
We would look for loads like this regularly. The rates on them are lower than a full load, but higher than if they were just done as a percent of the deck used.
Lets say you needed to use 20 feet of deck. That is a little less than half the trailer. But the rate would be for at least half of what you would pay for full deck.
This is LTL flatbed, and is a great way to make more money on a deck. When you can find loads that compliment your main load.
The down side is that the less you are willing to pay to move a less than load move, the longer it will have to wait. It will eventually be taken, but the less money that is available in it, the less time the driver will want to put into it, and the closer to his route it will have to be. -
Thank You ChromeDome for considering and responding to my post. What you describe is what I have been thinking, it only makes good sense. Because 99% of our loads are full flatbed loads we deal with companies, brokers, agents that rep trucks that only Load-N-Go. For example, about 2 months ago we issued to our list of trans providers that we needed to move a load that is 4'W x 12'L x 6'T x 3000# and that we were quite willing to wait for an economical opportunity. Every response was for us to buy the whole truck, load and move today. Consequently the load is still in VA. My thought is that we are not contacting the right companies, brokers, agents, etc and the continual negative results of our search suggests we don't know how to find those who would consider a partial load. Again Thank You for your response and it is pleasing to see that someone else shares my thoughts on one possible way to increase the income from a movement. K.
