I have had a lot of different jobs and a couple of long unemployment periods in the last 10 years, Will this make it hard for me to get a job? seeing how trucking companies want a 10 year work history

10 year is only for dot driving jobs, you will he good with just a 3.yr
-
driving a truck is a DOT job and he will need 10 years employment, now most companies only verify back 3 years of employment but the app has to have 10 years on it.
the last 3 will be their main concern, if you have had quit a few jobs or long unemployed times duing the last 3 then you will be less likely to get on with one of the better companies and will be inclined to start with one of the real botom feeders -
Do whatever the application says and do not leave any gaps. Some require 3 yrs and some 10.

You must go work at McDonalds or Taco Bell for 10 years to get a perfect work history before you can drive a truck. But after 10 years at Taco Bell you will most likely be able to be a manager which means you will make more money than a trucker and be home every night in a nice bed and not sleeping in a cramped sleeper in a truck stop parking lot. So things will work out for the best anyway.

What is DOT? is it the regulation of trucking?

Trucking is like no other job you will ever have. It is more then a job it is a lifestyle. Truly the only job that would prepare you for Trucking would be inmate in a correctional facility. They are asking for a 10 year time frame because the Department of Homeland Security requires them to. You are going to run into many folks out there from countries all over the world who do not have 10 year records that can be verified. Put down what you have, account for all time frames. If you were unemployed then put that down and give a letter and phone number for someone who can verify that. Your mother will do. It does not matter if you were in prison for part of that time as long as they know where you were. Remember, you are an American. You have to prove that you are not going to drive a truck into a crowd. If you were say a foreigner with a towel wrapped around your head we would not ask you that sort of thing as it would be racial profiling.
wyldhorses Thanks this. -
i just filled out a application if you have had a driving job in the past 10 years you are required to disclose your full work history in the last 10 years and get any unemployment verified .(This is a dot requirement)
If you haven't had a transportation job in the last 10 years you must verify your last 3 years of work history
As long as you have had a job in the past 3 years for at least 3 months of employment you should be fine ,now once you get a trucking job and you decided to job hop like in your past ,YOUR GONNA HAVE BIG PROBLEMS -

Thanks for the info. I don't job hop anymore.I made some bad decisions when I was younger.I've smartened up a lot.I live in Ontario but I'm assuming it's similar here
