I'm set to start orientation April 2, 2013. Fresh out the military and new to the trucking industry. I'm looking to team up with someone at Schneider that live in the MI area. I was told team bonus is only paid if you find your own partner. Any help to how to find a partner on my own. I tried friends and family no one wants to drive a big rig. Is there websites (not craigslist). It would have been easy to find a partner in truck driving school but I went to school in Colorado before getting out the military. I would like to meet and talk with the person before living most of my life with them on the road.

Well if you fail to find a partner, I reccomend to avoid teaming. There's a lot of things you have to consider running teams. Like will you get along with each other, lack of sleep, truck never stops, 2 people living in a small space, trying to sleep going down a road full of potholes. Please consider all of this. Like I said, if you can't find anyone on your own, go solo.
mje Thanks this. -
Teaming is not all its made out to be. They throw the pitches at you about how you can make WAY more money on a team truck. If you look at the brochures in truck stops for veteran driver companies and not training companies, they are only looking for married couple teams or established teams with verifiable experience. Why? Just because of what Voltrucker said. Compatibility issues. You get thrown in a truck with somebody you don't know from Adam and are expected to run hard and make friends as you go. What if you listen to nothing but country music and he wants to blast gangsta rap all day long? What if you don't feel comfortable driving nights and he refuses to drive anything but days with no compromise? What if your loads are time critical and he likes to take 2 hour showers? What if you travel light and he wants to bring 500lbs of junk with him in the truck? What if he has terrible hygiene and stinks to high heaven during his every other week shower rotation? Its a tossup at best, a recipe for disaster at worst. Don't give up your privacy and comfort for a measly bonus or the "promise" of better pay.

When I went through orientation there were 3 sets of teams. 5 weeks out of orientation and they all hate it. Personally I could never share a 60 sq ft box with another man. Like previous posters stated, the truck never stops. They will run you hard. You have to sleep while the truck is moving. And you're sharing the bunk with your teammate. In my own experience I've shown my DBL that I can and will run 600 miles a day given the chance and I get plenty of miles as a solo driver.

I have teamed with Schneider. Just tell them when you go in. They will find someone close to where you live. Their is good and bad. Teams get the best trucks. Teams get the best loads. Team truck only stops for fuel, food, and shower, usually in same stop. I don't team now. Solo trucks don't idle between 20 degrees and 70 degrees while on 10 hour break. I wouldn't work for Schneider even teaming because of idle policy. It gets awfully cold and hot out there. Just sayen. Good luck. Thank you for protecting us.

Thanks for all the replies but I understand the pros and cons of teaming. With me just leaving the military I have slept in the back of moving 5tons and share small living spaces with a platoon. I had to deal with men of all kind and backgrounds. So that's no big deal to me. Of course I don't want to share a small truck with a hog or someone with no manners and bad hygiene. But I was told by Schneider you get to talk and meet your partner before teaming up. I simpling want the extra money and don't mind atleast trying teams. I have some friends that say they love teams some that hated it.

I drove team with my boyfriend, with that said we are no longer friends. It tore us apart. I can say we did get lots of miles, coast to coast with little to no sleep for me. He was the worst driver. He would hit the brakes all the time, never could figure that one out. He would hit them strips along the sides of the roads every 30 min or so, and for some reason he couldnt drive a straight line,, had to weave alot even with a 100 miles of straight road. He would slam the door shut, and then open and shut it at least 3 or 4 times everytime while I was in the back trying to sleep . He just didnt get it, and by all means dont say anything to him about it, he thought he was the best driver out there. Even after months on the road with him, he would grind half the gears everytime. Now I know gears get messed up, we all grid them, but geewhizzzzz. Lets not forget how the roads are put together now. Potholes, bridge to road missmatched all of them feel like your running over small autos. He slept like a baby, never woke up, thats because I was careful what I was doing and did my best so he could sleep. Just to let you know be sure your partner is considerate. Its for some and not for others

Did you drive for Schneider Thanks but how is that info going to help me find a team partner.

Why teams? Whats so special about teaming? Im also in the military, and to be honest i hate living with someone. But. being in the military we do no have a choice. I would start off solo and then if you like it , try teams.

Rickybobby once again thanks but how is that going to help me find a team partner. I don't necessary want to live with someone in a small cubic truck but teams make more money. So I figure go teams make the money if I like driving but not teaming then I'll go solo. I might not like driving at all. The thread was posted encase someone had insight on how to find a partner or maybe run into someone in my area that want to team, not for everyone to tell me the cons of teaming.. I understand that part and appreicate all the replies telling me the cons, because it could have been something that I didnt know. $$Teams$$
