Finding center of flatbed.

    when I pulled a flat Id use the stake pockets as reference to where to place the load. each pocket was/is two feet apart, so on the 48 I usually pulled id count 12 pockets from the headache rack.. (24 feet - center of trailer).
    take some paint and put a mark at this point so you can reference it without counting every time. I was taught to "center" your loads about 8 to 10 inches back from center on a spread. I almost exclusively hauled pipe, plate and coils though.

    Did you double check by weighing any of your loads to confirm the 8-10" behind center?

    yes, never had a single issue with axle weights if that's what you are asking.
    im not saying that is the best theory or practice, its just the way I was taught when I started an seemed to work so I went with it....

    Yes, and thanks for the confirmation. I think I will likely grab a coil backhaul next time I am in PA. I had read the load needed to be a touch behind center, just didn't know how much.
