It always felt good to say “F you “ when they tried to get me to take a “but it will pay for your fuel” load.
“Screw you, I have unlimited loads at double that rate waiting on me in Biloxi.
My truck gets $x per mile or I ain’t cranking it up”Speed_Drums, slow.rider, God prefers Diesels and 1 other person Thank this. -
I just put it in the wind back to NE. Screw those clowns. .80 a mile they can #### themselvesbzinger and slow.rider Thank this. -
If a load going to CO doesn't pay enough to make a decent rate both directions, I don't bother booking the load. I had an offer just this morning from a broker wanting beer hauled from Portland OR to Aurora CO for $4 per mile and I said no. He thought I was nuts, and I told him if he could get me a back haul to the west coast for a decent rate I'd take it. He never called back.

Salt Lake City often has fair rates out and you can usually get something from Denver in that direction.
Be warned - New Mexico is worse. Don’t get tricked into loads going there.
Florida is okay if you stay north but if you head down towards Tampa or Worse, Miami. We dispatch a guy in that area and more often than not he has to deadhead back to Tallahassee because the rates aren’t worth his time.jason6541 and slow.rider Thank this. -
Now that I think about it back in my clark bros. LtL Days ( now saia ) it wasn't unusual to deadhead out the Denver terminal back to omaha .
Farmerbob1 and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
