A little backstory:
I obtained my Class A in 2016 and didn't drive much after getting my license as I kept working in the automotive industry.
Fast forward to the end of 2021, I got hired on with a local company running a 4-axle belly dump trailer in Colorado. I did that for 6 months and got an offer to run a 40ft end-dump trailer, hauling aggregates. Took that job for 6 months and work unfortunately slowed down to where I was only doing 30-40 hours a week (down from 70).
This led me to get back into automotive for a bit, until my wife and I moved back to Georgia to be closer to our families.
Now I have 1 year of (recent) experience and can't find a job. Applied to tons of companies in the area, not being picky.. Local, regional/dedicated and foodservice jobs, all types of trailers.. I just can't do OTR.
I have a clean record, never failed a drug test, no tickets/accidents, no health conditions..
I followed up with each job via phone and I keep getting told that the positions are filled or that the jobs are filling up quickly in the area and they'll be in touch. Then I get the email saying they decided not to move forward. I have all endorsements except for hazmat, and no manual restriction. Not sure why it feels like I'm un-hireable. Tried indeed, temp agencies, company websites directly and even craigslist.
Anyone have any ideas? Location: Atlanta, GA - Zip code 30309. Willing to commute.
Finding it hard to get a job with 1 year of experience.

Schneider veteran here...
my latest gig--hauling fuel (hazmat tanker) -- but NOT with Schneider....& home daily.
The problem isn't really with you. It's you timing. The general freight market has contracted sharply over the last year or so--& thus....suddenly....no one (seemingly) wants to hire a beginner.
Yes, you have some experience--but NONE of it is pulling a 48 or 53-ft trailer.

I think part of your problem is that hazmat endorsement (or the lack thereof).
Many loads involve items that qualify for hazmat, but aren't really dangerous--hair spray, charcoal, nail polish remover, paint, etc.
If you don't have hazmat--you exclude yourself from those loads.
And right now, especially--that's a BAD place to be....

As a safety guy, I would question why you got a CDL, then sat on it for 5 yrs, then had 2 jobs in 1 tr then moved to another state and won't do OTR......Not saying it's impossible, just keep trying. Good luck

You said regional was OK -- well then check this one out...no prev exp req'd -- most likely it's home on the weekends (be sure & ask) -- but it's flatbed duty; master this one...& you can do practically anything else, later:
Gypsum Express -- no exp req'd -- Atlanta, GA
-- LualBean Jr. Thanks this. -

In addition to my 1st carrier suggestion above -- you might check this one out; I'm not familiar with this carrier, but it's an entry-level position, with regional opportunities available after training:
KBR -- Lilburn, Ga
-- LualBean Jr. Thanks this. -
If you haven't already -- try these guys out...no exp req'd...& it's most likely to be dry van duty:
Werner -- Atlanta, Ga -- no exp req'd
-- LualBean Jr. Thanks this.
