    Hi,

I want to become a trucker, but before I pay the full fee to go to a good school, I want to know if I have the ability to drive a truck. Are there schools that allow you to test your skills and make some evaluation to see if you have the skill to do it or not without having to pay the full course fee? I'm most concerned about my ability to back up. I've never driven with a trailer, but I do drive a standard transmission.

Any and all feedback is much appreciated.

Your skill level probably equals half the new Canadians out there already.

That's what school is for. You slowly get good at all your driving skills. In the beginning, just about all of us sucked at backing up. Some pick it up faster than others. You should not worry. Just never panic or feel rushed because some other person is honking or yelling ... whatever. Just smile and wonder how high his blood pressure will go while you remain cool. Also, about your experience with a manual car ... Only how the clutch releases and starts to grab is similar. The shifting is completely different. They will teach you that, too. Good luck to you.

Are you retarded? No? You probably have the ability.
Are you missing more than an arm and a leg? No? You probably have the ability.

Do you want to drive truck? Yes? Then learn the skills needed. You have the ability. Go for it!!

Oh yeah...You should be able to read and write English....but since you posted in English...You have the ability.

You can go to a trucking school and rent a truck and trainer by the hour. After my neighbour took me out with his truck on runs, I paid $100 per hour for a school truck and trainer to evaluate what course would benefit me the most. I just enrolled in the next highest course and got my class 1.
