It's small and is only a misdemeanor.

    just another trucker's BS story.

i used to carry two types of bolt cutters, pry bars and other assorted tools.

next time a trucker starts off with a BS story, call him on it to give MORE details and specifics. watch him either back track, or ask you if you are calling HIM a liar.

    call him a liar.

It is a tool of the trade. If a company is still using the old 'twist wire' system; bolt cutters are the only way to remove the heavy wire. Oops, wrong. The wire can also be removed with an acetelyne torch. Most prefer the bolt cutters.

Picture this.... COE Freightliner on it's side. Fuel all over the ground and batteries hanging loose and sparking on the guard rail. Driver unconcious in cab.Trucker with a pair of bolt cutters cuts battery cables and ends possible fire source so driver can be rescued.

Same same could be said of any "modern" vehicle with electric fuel pumps, etc.

BTW, I do carry a set for removing said cable seals prior to unloading.

When bolt cutters are outlawed, only outlaws (and rent-a-cops at the entry gates of receivers) will have bolt cutters.

This is just a little FYI from the Calif, laws in 2011.

    "Motorcycle Theft: (AB 1848, Garrick)
This bill adds Section 466.65 to the Penal Code and makes it a misdemeanor to possess, give, or lend the following:

Items of hardware, including bolt cutters, electrical tape, wire cutters, wire strippers, or allen wrenches, with the intent to aid in the unlawful taking or driving of a motorcycle without the consent of the owner."

From the wording it sounds like you better never give away bolt cutters either.

There is more to this law, but I just posted the 'bolt cutter' part. I knew there are bolt cutter (aka Master Key) rules, but electrical tape? I like to learn something new everyday. :)

Yeah, cause you gotta cut the wires under the ignition switch, tie them back together, and you need the tape to keep them from....wait, IGNORE THAT. :biggrin_25511:

Apparently, you don't know the difference between 'then' and 'than'.

Or, did you simply misspell it?
Don't forget, a spell check won't catch the wrong word if it it spelled correctly.
