Hey everyone been lurking this board for awhile. Need some advice please. I am on the tail end of my first year on the road teaming. So I team with a friend that is a lease op for a mega carrier. He has fifteen years driving exp and I thought it would be a good idea after getting cdl and the team training time(with him) to stay on truck get more drive time and learn more before deciding what to do. I think I'm not going to stay at this company and lease a truck. I showed contract to a few people one which owned a heavy haul company. They both said very one sided contract. So with that said. I really would like to know what are good companies to start looking at. Every company paints such a great picture of what money you can make. I am not a job hopper I have only had two jobs in my life both over ten years. So I like to get as much info as possible before making a big move. I live in ohio and it seems as there is a good deal of freight and companies that run out of here. Any help and info would be great.
Finishing first year

....and what do you want to do? Tanker, reefer, flatbed, dry van....OTR, regional, local, LTL?
Give some more info so people can better assist you. -
Sorry my bad I'm reefer right now have all endorsements. Not sure I'm wanting to do tanker or flatbed. Yet but money talks if you know what I mean.

Decide what type of truck and what type of work and go see them. If you walked into our office telling that story we'd do you right. If you fill out an application over the net you'll be filing with everyone else with no picture of you. Just a application that they will accept or not on information that everyone puts down. My advice to you is find a company you like and go and talk with them. Smaller the better.

Hey thanks for replying. It's really hard sifting through the bs in this business. I really like it though. So far.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
You can do real well with tankers. That one year driving experience opens many doors.
Trimac Transportation is a good company and can make $60K-$80K there, then move on to their Elite Fleet in a year or so and make over $100K.
Many, maybe dozens, of tanker jobs in Ohio for OTR or local.
Superior Carriers
Miller Transporters
Groendyke Transport
Tidewater Transit
A&R Logistics - home weekends & make $62K-$72K.
SVTN
Good flatbed outfit is PI&I Motor Express.
Foodliner is food grade tanker; good company but more money in hazmat.Last edited: May 1, 2015
