Or web search the phrase "driver shot" and that'll give you oh, about ten thousand more reasons to carry. I just left my subcompact Kahr .40 at home for the first time in a year... I traded up to my Kimber .45 custom.

Thank you Dice1 for further clarifying. One of the stories reminded me of a smart phone app that many drivers would be interested in; it's called Life360. The app shows locations of police responses on a map that is surrounding the area you are currently in. The information goes back as long as you wish. In other words, when I park in a location that I'm not familiar with, I pull up the app which shows a map of my location. Any crimes that police have been called out to (within the last six months, as I have it set up) shows up on the map. I can click on a crime icon and it tells me the date and what the reported crime was. If I'm staying in a parking lot, closed fuel station, etc. that shows a number of crimes, I make sure to ready my pistol; whether legal or not.

What saddens me is the Jason Rivenburg story is that he was murdered over $7 while his wife was pregnant with twins that he never got to hold or watch grow up.

I have had my gun in the sleeper I used a sports authority pistol box had the mags next to gun and the guns chamber open in the box DOT did not say anything to me. He asked if I had a weapon I told him yes its in my sleeper out of my reach and he asked that I give it to him until he was done with the road side and let me go. This was in Georgia if it makes a difference.

Maybe like this. Im sitting at a Truckstop, and I see 3 or 4 guys bust your window and pull you out and start boot training you. And I walk up and put them down like the dogs they are. That's how they can come in handy. A person who grew up with guns can pop the lid open, pop in a clip cycle the action and be loaded in seconds. In less time then it would take to walk from the back of the trailer to the driver door. However they can also unload it and put it away just as fast. So chances are slim you would ever be caught anyway. I just carry Bear spray and a Bat and a 12 inch screw driver, No need to make all that noise and wake up the other truckers lol, But seriously some folks are as quick and nimble with a gun as a cell phone.

I am partial to a Stoeger 12 gauge, short double barrel coach gun. There is something very intimidating about having two large barrels aimed at you, and if that doesn't convince you, then the 9 nickle plated .33 caliber lead balls flying out the end of one of those barrels certainly will. No perp is going to confuse this thing for a paint ball or pellet gun. It is easy to grab and just about the most legal firearm you can have anywhere except in the most restrictive jurisdiction. A firearm like this settled many a gunfight in the olden days, and time hasn't changed it's effectiveness. Fancy is cool. Function and results are better. Heck, even in Vietnam and other places since, even with all the fancy stuff, a good 12 gauge shotgun can be a very useful tool. I sure liked using one in SE Asia. Guess that is why I still prefer one. And rounds like low recoil buckshot make a very good close in load for even a small woman to use.

    A suggestion....

Carry a revolver, take the empty shells with you as you walk away. Revolvers make it a lot easier to "clean up" after target practice......just sayin'

I'll enjoy my little vacation now....

You got that right cowpie 1, Very handy indeed , And a long gun doesn't look as bad to law enforcement. Might look a little strange walking around a truckstop with one though. That's why I like the Bear spray. Its legal and quiet and you can take it anywhere , Just slide it in a coat pocket, your back pocket, One in each door whatever. I have one hear beside me now. Small price to pay. And if it will stop a pissed off grizzly in full charge attack mode then what more can I say. Personally being from Oklahoma I was raised around weapons and they don't bother me much, I agree that all people should be allowed to go armed to the teeth simply because all criminals will be armed no matter what. Nothing will ever change that. Ive had to use one before back in 1992 to defend myself and my wife. So I can say IVE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT. I had to shoot a person, 3 persons. And it did break the attack yes. They all lived, I was also shot. It was in Coldsprings Texas , San Jacinto County. Its not what most people envision, It happens fast, very fast. When its over your like in shock. You have to make sure your in the right. It was a long drawn out ordeal with the court system and everything. I was cleared of everything. But point is one of the attackers was wounded and it was dark outside, I didn't know he went to his car and got a riot shotgun and came back for more. He had 7 or 9 rounds of #4 turkey loads in it, first shot took off my mirror narrowly missing me, second shot driver side back tire, I could hear them screaming wheres that white girl, Get that Effing white girl, I couldn't locate my wife and they were hunting for her also, One of my friends and my brother already had her. I dived in the front seat and slammed the door and put the keys in, when I looked up this man was at the end off my hood pumping a shell in. He shoulders the gun and I dived down as the window takes the first blast, windshield spider webbed but was still intact with a fist sized whole where the main impact was, he shoots again and some of the pellets come on through and go in my shoulder and fore arm, He blows the front tire. I throw open passenger door and roll out under the truck beside me and reload, My brother said he went to the driver door and pulled it open, I didn't see any of that. Then everything's quiet. Im still hunting my wife because I didn't know my brother and Billy already had her, I go back and kick the door in on the bar and go inside, the music had stopped everyone hit the floor and Im screaming at the top of my lungs wheres my wife, wheres my ####---g wife. No one answers me , and suddenly my brothers behind me yelling we got her. Thank God! The attackers were gone, sirens everywhere, cops everywhere, shell casings everywhere. Turns out these were 3 young Black thugs that had been robbing and causing all manner of hell for months. They were all wounded and at the hospital in Huntsville Texas. Now what started all this crap in the first place. We were in a Bar in cold springs Texas, It was late and we were leaving, They had broke in my truck when we went outside. They were in the dark and all on the driverside standing there with the door open. Everyone of us was a bunch of youngsters. Dumb Kids! I waded in trying to be a tough guy and was doing a very good job at just duking it out between the 2 vehicles they couldn't all get to me at once lol, so for a few seconds it was just a fight, then my wife jumps in and gets punched and so I pull the 22 magnum from my back pocket and started shooting. And that started it all. I was 21 or 22 years old, Im now 43 years old. I still have the lead in my arm and shoulder. Its never bothered me though. But I look back and think suppose I had been armed with some bear spray in those tight quarters lol, He would have never went and got that gun. They would have been flopping on the ground like fish out of water. The cops would have never been called. I would have driven away and left them flopping and stumbling around wanting a bucket of water to stick their head in. It was only a fight, and I turned it in to a gun fight. SO be careful what you wish for. I should be dead right now. The only thing saved me was it was dark and he was having trouble seeing where I was. And the Grace of God. This is a long story but its a true story, The Sherriff at the time was Lacy Rogers, Im sure its well documented! And Im telling you it never ends like you think it will. A lot of youngsters have rehearsed this crap in their head, Oh ill do this/ or Ill do that! Yea right! Its not like that. Everything isn't always a killing matter. So be careful out there guys, Think things through. Be aware of surroundings when you approach places. A large majority of these incident's could be filtered out with a little common sense. Everybody wants to be a Rambo lol, Well its not like TV when it happens to you. Talking about this still makes me want to yack sometimes. LOL. Its a crazy world, Be careful folks and remember your brain is your best weapon.
