Perhaps having a weapon is a part of intelligent preparation.

I don't get it. What is the second question? -
Its a 50 / 50 deal.
Prisons are full of people who likely wish they never had a firearm , and GRAVE YARDS are full of people who likely wish they would had one.Jackofalltrades1977, paullie, Bumpy and 1 other person Thank this. -

regarding shippers and/or recievers that do not allow firearms at their facility,HOW WILL THEY KNOW IF YOU ARE CARRYING IF YOU DO NOT ADVISE THEM? I merely stash whatever i am carrying for the week in my truck somewhere.Generally,a driver is only inside long enough to be advised what dock to back in and then to get the signed bills.
No need to advertise that you are carrying by asking questions and if you don't see the signs prohibiting firearms until you are going into the facility, simply act as if you forgot something in the truck and walk back to it and take the concealed weapon off.
During the summer I carry a .32 w/alternating loads and two mags and during the winter i carry a taurus .45 24/7,oss in a blackhawk holster.I have not yet been questioned regarding if am or am not carrying. -
The Federal courts have recently said that yes you can stop in New York with a firearm if you are going somewhere else and you can even spend the night as long as you are following all of the other laws, but if stopped by most law enforcement you will still be arrested and have to spend time in jail and go to court to defend yourself because most Law Enforcement are not informed of those decisions by their supervisors and the prosecutors are politically motivated to put people with guns in jail.

If you would like to be able to have your concealed carry permit allow you to carry in all of the states call your representatives in the House to support H.R. 822, and in the Senate to support S. 2188 and S. 2213 these bill are for national right to carry and will basically make your Concealed Carry Permit like a drivers license good in all states that allow concealed carry (currently 49 states, coming soon to Illinois) but you will still be subject to local laws! Two good organizations to contact regarding firearms laws are the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation.

Florida carry permit is reciprocal in 34 states for concealed carry - for states with no concealed reciprocity, I keep it where I could normally keep it LEGALLY for that state (glovebox, console, etc.) and for those "other states" in unload it, put a trigger lock on it, and lock it in the same case I use in checked baggage on an aircraft, THEN put it somewhere I do not have immediate access to it (and keep my fingers crossed). I pull over BEFORE I CROSS THE BORDER into a state where it is illegal, and put it in the case and locked away.
Unfortunately - CMV's are subject to warrantless searches (disguised as "inspections") though it's less likely that you will be stopped and have your truck tore apart, looking for a firearm - than just a cursory "harassment inspection" that we're all used to ANYWAY. Drive legally, have all your paperwork in order, and be polite and respectful to the guy that HAS the gun on his belt, and chances are you won't be scrutinized closely enough to tumble on your piece.
DO TAKE NOTICE though - in some states you have to DECLARE that you are carrying a licensed, legally concealed firearm, and in others you DO NOT. I make it a rule of thumb, to just show them my carry permit when I'm pulling my license out. 95% of the time, they will disarm you, unload the weapon and hand you your gun, mag and chambered round (cause a gun without a round in the chamber is a CLUB, not a GUN), after the traffic stop and bid you well. The other 5%, they'll just tell you to keep your hands away from it.
I carry an FN 5.7 with a green dot laser. Most cops forget what they stopped me for in the first place, and spend 10 minutes "talking guns" with me (assuming they're not stopping me because I did something that has them really pi$$ed off at me). I carry EVERYWHERE I am legally allowed to - though at shippers/receivers I would probably leave it in the cab, lest it get exposed accidentally and they freak out over it.

Trust me I am aware of the Laws concerning firearms, I was just trying to keep it simple.
I have been carrying a Springfield Armory 1911 for 20 years, 14 in a CMV!
