Ah ...instruct me further if you can. I know 1099 means a self-employed contractor but does that here also imply (oh, dread) a lease?

No, you are just self-employed contractor, no benefits. No lease. You are looking for company driver position right?

Yeah, company driver. So that's why they offer 0.50/mile - no benefits. Obama-care here I come. Do you think such jobs are harder to fill and that's why someone in my position would have a better chance?

I can't say from experience but have I read on this forum that there are quite often problems with 1099 deals. Guys not getting paid and no support if you have some kind of trouble sort of deals.

I don't know details, all I know is that they desperately need drivers, because 150 NEW Trucks are waiting on their lot. Every day the trucks are staying - they loose. Please call them in the morning. Good luck!

    dogtrucker Thanks this.

Amerifreight is not a small company, they even have own soccer team, not professional of course. I don't think any body has problem receiving the check. Just No benefits.

I was 1099 with this company before I went O/O and I'm still here. I was started @ $.42 cpm. $.50 would have been nicer.

I personally wouldnt let 1099 scare me. If things got bad, I wouldnt hesitate to go 1099 again. I think I paid a little more in taxes, but I also made significantly more also. I mean I grossed $78k my first year and still managed a $940 refund come tax time. If it gets him over the hump and the company treats him decent,.. who cares?

Not everyone running drivers on 1099 treat their drivers like dirt. I've been on both sides of the fence. Legally,.. well, it is what it is. But you gotta eat. So why go hungry?

Company I work for is the boss, me, and a couple part time retired guys and we have a softball team. That does not give us any credibility nor the guy with 150 new trucks. If they were serious about filling trucks they would be legit and not running guys on a 1099.

I see your point and maybe I'm wrong. I'm not buying it that some company went out and purchased 150 tractors and does not have any drivers for them. I probably tied the 1099 and that company together more then I should have.
