Fortunately you mean? I like that owners are FREE to hire and fire. Why should they have to be stuck with someone they don't want?

Ask most European employers about the laws there and you will quickly see why unemployment is so high. The "protection" provided by the laws do little more than protect the laziest of the population. Want job security? Make yourself so valuable that the company could not afford to go on without you.

Umm, 12% of zero is ... someone help me with the math here, please? Even 12% of .61 is .07 a mile. At 60 mph that is $4.20 an hour.

The driver has no control over how many miles you force him to drive empty and you expect him to drive for $4.20 an hour? If you are going to be an employer, then be an employer. Dont be a cheap ### O-O that is worse than being one of these horse #### mega carriers. I was on your side until you posted that. Jesus Christ!

Yes, I understand that an O-O gets nothing to dead head. Except that an O-O makes the CHOICE to dead head. As an EMPLOYER, you give the DRIVER no choice.

You need to re-think your position...

So a driver making $1600+ a week on as little as 2,400 total driven miles "cheap". Then by all means, pay more.

I am planning to hire a driver in a month after finishing truck's overhaul. Will be paying $1500 for 5 days, hope to get a good guy with that money,
because sometimes truck runs only 1500 miles per week and mileage pay does not have sense and I don't wanna do percentage, worker should not know how much company makes. Also, it seems like drivers who work for percentage, eventually buy own trucks.
I think with ELD's more and more people will get away from mileage pay

I specialize in short haul with an average length under 400 miles. I just booked a load for my van paying the driver $212 for 249 miles. Obviously worse than the mega carriers.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Well, if that's all he makes per day, that's not much for living in the metal box 24/7...

I typically like to run 2 of those per day. If I do my part right, he should gross no less than $1,600/wk. I can't control Uncle Sam and the state of New York taxes..
